CORPORATE SERVICES ASSISTANT MANAGER

The Corporate Services department has a significant impact on our colleagues’ quality of life by providing a safe, effective work atmosphere. Our global company hosts visitors on a daily basis and must ensure they feel safe and welcome in our facilities. As a manager in Corporate Services, the successful candidate will ensure that the ADM standards for safety, ethics and the environment are reflected in the work of the department. Project management success is critical, so the right candidate will be passionate about delivering projects on time and within budget given the resources allocated. With innovation the Assistant Manager will provide ever-improving facilities for our colleagues and visitors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver projects related to ADM facilities on time and within budget, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness and safety
- Successfully lead a department of approximately 50 employees who deliver maintenance, construction and janitorial services for ADM corporate facilities
- Effectively manage vendors who deliver service related to areas such as plumbing, electrical, roofing, flooring, janitorial and consulting
- Apply ADM safety, ethical and environmental standards throughout all work, ensuring that the staff and vendors complete work with these same standards
- Identify changes and improvements needed for existing facilities and make recommendations to management
- Provide estimates of time, resources and cost to supervisors for assigned jobs
- Inspect and evaluate work in progress to ensure that repairs, maintenance and project activities are performed in accordance with codes, policies and procedures
- Monitor work activities to ensure the safe completion of projects within the established guidelines
- Provide oversight of contractors performing maintenance, janitorial and construction projects
- Maintain accurate and timely records of projects and expenditures
- Effectively communicate project status throughout project life as needed
- Review programs for, and ensure the safe operation of, Company vehicles, equipment and machinery
- Apply innovation and stay current on trends in the fields of maintenance, janitorial and construction services, incorporating new ideas as appropriate
- Review projects for areas of success and opportunities for improvement
- Utilize project outcomes for coaching opportunities with staff and/or vendors, as well as for general improvement for future projects
- Participate in, and make recommendations for, the selection of staff
- Implement staff training programs
- Schedule, supervise and coach staff to ensure department and individual goals are met
- Lead with integrity, be decisive and use sound judgment in managing projects, staff and vendors
- Be an agent of change and inspire staff to collaborate in determining how we can continue to improve our work and outcomes
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Minimum five years of maintenance supervisor experience, including maintenance staff and vendor management
- Must be able to identify and practice safety and ensure the same for department staff and vendors, showing a concern for the well-being of those supervised
- Proven success in project management, including planning and executing work to meet project deadlines within budget
- Ability to accurately estimate time, costs and resources associated with projects
- Proven experience with materials, methods and terminology used in the service areas of construction and maintenance, including plumbing, electrical and HVAC
- Familiarity with the operational characteristics of equipment used in work activities, including knowledge of proper procedures, occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Ability to successfully manage risk by troubleshooting existing issues and anticipating potential problems
- Familiarity with federal, state and local laws, as well as codes and regulations related to building maintenance and construction
- Possess, or obtain within one year, City of Decatur Registered Mechanical Contractor license (ADM will provide support for coursework and application for testing required to obtain license)
- Effectively collaborate with internal and external contacts, developing and maintaining appropriate work relationships

PREFERENCES
- Proficiency in CAD and landscaping software
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
ENVIRONMENT
During the monitoring and evaluation of project work, employee may be exposed to noise, dust, grease, smoke, noxious odors, gases and weather conditions as well as mechanical hazards. Work setting will include both an office setting and a plant setting, depending upon the project. Must be able to climb ladders, move throughout project sites and landscaping, all while working safely. A partial list of the large equipment utilized in the position includes: fork lift, mower and snow plow. The position requires standing, filing, bending, keyboard and scanner operations, sitting for extended periods of time and communicating clearly over the telephone, in person and in written correspondence.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Corporate Services Assistant Manager will report to the Assistant Vice-President Corporate Services.
