This position is in the Weyerhaeuser Timberlands Business. As one of the world's largest timberlands managers, Weyerhaeuser owns, licenses or leases more than 38 million acres of forests in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Uruguay. These forests, along with the company's orchards, nurseries and green houses, provide a renewable supply of logs and wood fiber to supply society with the wood and paper products it needs. Independent auditors have certified that all of these forests meet internationally recognized standards of sustainable forest management. This position will be a member of the Cosmopolis Forest Resource Team as part of Western Timberlands (WTL) located in Cosmopolis, WA. The GIS Specialist will be assisting with the coordination, development, and maintenance of a Geographic Information System (GIS) as it applies to providing inventory and spatial analysis in support of intensive forest management and harvest systems on Weyerhaeuser’s Aberdeen and Pe Ell/Raymond Tree Farms. This role requires cross-functional exposure to the diverse people and responsibilities that connect forest management, forest inventory, forest engineering, and harvest planning at Weyerhaeuser. This position provides training and support to novice system users in managing data flow to and from GIS. The position involves office and limited field time appropriate to the tasks being accomplished. The nature of this position is developmental with opportunities to participate in the WTL Forest Resource Integrated Skills Development Process. Actual pay and level will be based on skills and experience the candidate brings to the job as will future progression though next levels. BS in Forestry/Natural Resources/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or equivalent. Strong understanding and 2 years of applicable experience applying integrated GIS and resource database management - ESRI GIS applications (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcSDE). Strong commitment to safety, stewardship, customer satisfaction and teamwork. Strong computer skills in applications such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. Applicable experience with aerial photo interpretation, map reading, map production, GPS and/or remotely sensed data. Planning, organizing, and managing multiple priorities which require strong analytical and problem solving skills. Strong team- and customer-focused inter-personal, communication (oral and written), and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to manage and document information. Self-starter who can manage multiple assignments simultaneously and shift priorities as necessary. Willingness to work the hours required to complete the work.
