Gardener I- Nemours Mansion

Nemours owns and operates the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, as well as four major Children's specialty centers in Wilmington, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Pensacola. The Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, with a long-established and excellent reputation in pediatric health care, draws a broadly diverse patient population. The hospital, supported in part through an endowment from the Nemours Foundation, continues to grow both regionally and nationally and is the tertiary care center for pediatrics within the Jefferson Health System. The Nemours Mansion, located on the Nemours Estate, is seeking the right candidate for a Gardener I position. PRIMARY FUNCTION Maintain and improve the gardens by performing all pertinent maintenance practices ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Operate all landscape equipment and vehicles including large trucks, tractors, skid loader and backhoe. Bedding area preparations, i.e. roto-tilling etc. Weed and clean bedding areas Water as needed Mulch Chemical applications as required. Planting seasonal flowers Planting woody plant materials Transplant woody plant materials Mowing Hedge Shearing Pruning evergreen and deciduous shrubs and flowering trees, shaping and dead wooding Snow and ice control Work on special projects Participate in planning Responsible for participating in departmental and Foundation programs for quality assessment and improvement. Work with department management to improve services provided. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS I. Education, Training and Experience High school or equivalent preferred Minimum of seven years experience maintaining formal gardens Formal garden maintenance training II. Licenses, Registrations or Certifications 1.Valid drivers license 2. Pesticide Applicators License / Preferred not Required. PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND ENVIRONMENT A. Physical Abilities Touching – Feeling: perceiving attributes of an object such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with the skin, particularly the fingertips. Hearing – Normal Conversation: Perceiving oral communication with the ears Seeing – General Vision: – Normal Conversation: Perceiving oral communication with the ears Seeing – General Vision: Perceiving an object with the eye: Near vision: seeing an object within 16” of the eye clearly, Far vision: seeing an object within 20’ from the eye clearly, Peripheral vision: seeing outside the central focus, side vision. And Depth Perception: judging the distance of objects at different distances. Speech – Tone and clarity are able to be understood by others B. Exposures Included but not limited to the occasional exposure to chemicasl such as herbicides and pesticides, cleaning solvents, flammables, fuels, odors, fumes, gases, electrical hazards, extreme or constant loud noises, confined or small spaces, cold, heat, dirt, dry air, dust, and pollen.
