This position is in the Packaging division, which operates a network of over 80 packaging plants in the United States and Mexico. Each site manufactures corrugated boxes for a range of industrial, agricultural and consumer products.Background: The Plant Engineer plans and leads the daily activities of the Maintenance Department in the areas of Safety, Quality, and Maintenance. This requires both a focus on leadership as well as the full utilization of information, procedures and methods to positively impact the materials, machines, internal and external customers of the facility.Key Functions: Ensure the safety and well being of ones self and all of the employees in the manufacturing facility. Identify areas where safety issues could arise and take measures to proactively address the concerns. Participate in weekly, monthly, semi annual and annual safety and environmental audits. Complete monthly safety audits with the Safety/Environmental Coordinator. Actively participate on the plants Safety Committee, which is coordinated by the Safety/Environmental Coordinator. Actively supervises 11 employees in the everyday coordination, execution and planning of maintenance efforts. Participate and communicate as a functional TEAM member Maintain a good working relationship with the plants management, supervisory staff and hourly employees. Continually communicate in a positive manner. Enforce the House Rules and the provisions of the Labor Agreement in a consistent and fair manner. Conduct oneself in a manner that is reflective of the Company's policies on harassment, discrimination, etc. Actively pursues measures to reduce downtime on production equipment. Identifies opportunities and takes measures to reduce waste. Coordinates initiatives to reduce operating costs. Completes tasks in a timely and organized fashion Oversees the housekeeping efforts in the maintenance area. Works with the maintenance staff to develop a Reliability Based program to proactively address equipment issues. Instill a TEAM concept in the work place. Take measures to eliminate manufacturing issues. Plans, schedules and monitors the timely completion of maintenance work orders. Attend workshops to enhance industry knowledge and the capabilities of the plant.  Requirements: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).  Five or more years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment with proven skills in the areas of electrical, PLC, and computer-controlled equipment. Advanced SAP knowledge is essential. Experience in preventive and predictive maintenance methods. Demonstrated project management, planning, and organizational skills. Strong mechanical knowledge of manufacturing processes. Ability to identify root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence. Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving, analytical, and teaming, oral / written communication skills. Knowledge of computerized maintenance and inventory control systems. Working knowledge and ability to utilize personal computers and software.
