RECREATION PROGRAM OVERVIEW

 

 

The Recreation Program for the Astoria District is a fairly new program.  The first Recreation Management Plan was developed in September of 2000. 

 

Since that time the district has developed a new Equestrian Camp and associated trail system, constructed approximately 22 miles of trails, created or improved 51 camp sites, is currently engaged in planning for development of a new Off-highway Vehicle opportunity on the forest, and is engaged in various education and interpretation projects. 

 

This summer the district will also be improving an existing day use area for our Lost Lake recreation site which will include parking, sanitation facilities, fishing access structures, and various day use amenities. 

 

District recreation staff is also currently assisting in development of a refined vision and mission for recreation with the Oregon Department of Forestry.

 

This is an exciting time to be involved in the recreation program on the Astoria District.

 

We are doing a lot more than maintaining existing facilities.  We are engaged in developing the vision and future for recreation for the Astoria District and Oregon Department of Forestry.
