Research Scientist – Research Triangle Park, NC

 

Role Purpose –

 

Develop and implement novel approaches of plant transformation concepts and technologies.

Develop novel and effective delivery and expression technology for molecular stacking of traits.

Set up high throughput transformation and screening system for transgene expression.

Develop and test technologies for generating high quality transgenic events with simple insertion, consistent expression, high fertility and transmission.

 

 

Accountabilities –

 Design and carry out innovative plant transformation improvement studiesSet up a system to monitor transformation technology improvement and gene expressionIndependently and effectively conceive, design, implement, interpret, report and present results from technology development studiesMaintain accurate experimental records according company policies with outstanding attention to detailActively interact and share results with group members and other scientists in a timely fashionPerform all activities in accordance with all applicable Syngenta and SBI Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policiesTake personal responsibility for personal health and safety and that of co-workers

 

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

 

Critical knowledgeExcellent knowledge in plant molecular biology and geneticsExcellent knowledge in plant tissue culture and plant transformationStrong scientific background in plant development, physiology and biotechnology  

 

Critical experiencePh.D or MS with 2 to 5 years of experience in a biotechnology research lab. Industrial experience is preferred.  Experience in plant transformation, preferably with experience in recalcitrant crop transformationExcellent experience in molecular biology

 

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilitiesExperience in plant tissue culture, transformation and relevant media preparation, including sterile technique and independent design and implementation of experimental plansExcellent analytical and communication skills in interpreting and presenting study resultsProficiency in use of standard software (e.g., Excel and PowerPoint); familiarity with databases and DNA manipulation software preferredDemonstrated problem-solving ability in the context of recombinant DNA technology and plant transformation optimization Demonstrated experience in working effectively as a member of a dynamic technical teamFlexibility in handling new job assignments and achieve results in a rapidly changing work environmentExperience in quantitative fluorescence imaging technique a plus
