The Research Station Tech Sr. will be a member of the Seed Activities team within the BASF Plant Science organization. This team performs critical activities necessary to advance BPS's plant breeding and biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and effectively as possible. These research and development projects focus on enhancing crop performance, productivity, nutritional value, and overall plant health.
The Research Station Tech Sr. will primarily be responsible for supporting the Nursery and Plant Breeding Supervisor in all activities of the BPS Breeding program located in Weldon, IL. Activities include, but are not limited to the processing, counting, and assembly of seed for nursery and yield trials, scouting nurseries for insects and disease, planting, detasseling, hand pollination in summer and winter nurseries, harvesting of nursery and yield trial plots. This position will also be responsible for the supervision of seasonal temporary help.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
2 years relevant experience in an agricultural area or seed research.
Ability to communicate and interact with the Nursery and Plant Breeding Supervisor and other research personnel, both at this and other research locations.
Demonstrated experience using transport vehicles to move research equipment and operate such equipment, including performance of periodic inspections and maintenance of field and lab equipment.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications upon or required within 6 months of hire date.
Restricted Use Pesticide Applicators license upon or acquired within 6 months of hire date.
Ability and willingness to work in adverse environmental conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and sunshine.
Willingness to commit to working in winter nurseries for up to 2 weeks at a time.
Basic computer skills.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
A.S. or B.S. in a related field.
Experience in seed corn research, especially supervision of seasonal and temporary personnel.
A farm background.
Intermediate computer skills using email, MS office products, plant breeding research databases, and web.
