AIX Administrator

Full Time, Temporary/Contract/Project Job Category: IT/Software Development Relevant Work Experience: 2+ to 5 Years Career Level: Experienced (Non-Manager) Education Level: Associate Degree AIX system Administrator JOB DUTIES: Responsible for supporting the installation,administration and troubleshooting of CADCAM UNIX servers hosting AIX Power 4 & 5 operating systems in a large, multi-user, distributed network environment. Support includes incident/problem management, system outages, change activities, block points, diagnosing hardware and software failures. Responsibilities also include local and remote software installations, driver and firmware upgrades, documentation, configuration management, integration of new systems/peripherals and monitoring system performance to ensure service availability and performance, designing and implementing system enhancements. Developing utility programs and procedures using various scripting languages may be required. Support on-call during off shift weekends and holidays on a rotational basis. 24X7 on-call rotation support is required, pager and or cell phone will be provided.JOB SKILLS: Two or more years experience in directly supporting IBM AIX, Power 4 or 5 technologies desired. Three or more years UNIX system administration required. Professional certification in AIX P-Series Systems or other UNIX servers is a plus. CATIA experience desired.Working knowledge of Remedy / BARS, TCP/IP networking, NFS, NIS, NIM, FTP, file & directory management, user accounts and disaster recovery procedures desired. Experience with shell (bsh, ksh, csh) scripting languages desired. Experience in EMC disk management and/or Tivoli desired. Person must have strong teaming, interpersonal, documentation, and communication skills. Person must have demonstrated ability to show resilience in response to constraints, frustrations and/or adversity.Ability to adjust priorities to multiple demands and unanticipated events as well as adjust decisions and actions to new information. Must be flexible in response to changing circumstances or conditions, be receptive to feedback and coaching. Good attention to detail and the ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.Candidate must also possess good problem solving skills and exercise good judgment. Prefer an advanced degree in computer science or related technical discipline; technical school certifications considered.
