Job Description McGraw-Hill Construction, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, connects people, projects and products across the design and construction industry. From project and product information to industry news, trends and analysis, we provide industry players with the tools, applications and resources that help them save time, money and energy. Backed by the power of Dodge, Sweets, Architectural Record, Engineering News Record (ENR), and our Regional Publications, McGraw-Hill Construction serves more than one million professionals within the $4.6 trillion global construction community. The Associate Editor, Special Sections will oversee the quarterly Lighting and twice-yearly Interiors sections of Architectural Record. This editor will collect all materials for these sections of the magazine, and return materials after each issue has closed. This editor will attend conferences and events relating to architectural lighting and interiors, scouting, as well as helping us to expand our interiors and lighting coverage both in print and on the Web. This editor will also generally contribute to other parts of the magazine, including editing, writing, and overseeing certain articles. Responsibilities include: Create a yearly calendar of topics for the quarterly Lighting offering in print and on the Web. Create a yearly calendar of topics for the twice yearly Interiors special offering in print and on the Web. For special sections, this editor will assign stories and write at least one, edit all stories, collect graphic material for all stories, work with the art department on layouts, and work with the Quark documents to finalize pages. For the Web, this editor will work with the web editor and web designer to incorporate extra material onto the site, including helping to facilitate walkthroughs or other multimedia presentation contacts. Editor will network with lighting and interior architecture professionals attend trade shows and events relating to lighting and interiors. Inform other staff editors of new lighting and interiors projects and related trends to watch for. Act as a liaison between Architectural Record and the public, the architectural community, and professional organization. Attend seminars, press conferences, and industry events, some of which take place in the evening and some of which requires overnight travel. Minimum of Bachelor degree in related subject (i.e. Journalism, English, Architecture, etc.) Demonstrated writing and editing skills Five years experience writing and/or editing, with at least two years experience writing about architecture and design Working knowledge of lighting technology and trends Organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to handle pressure, multitask, and meet strict deadlines An interest in design and architecture, and the ability to interface with architects, designers, and product manufacturers A working knowledge of interior design Copyright 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies.
