Commissioning Specialist for a State of the Art Biosafety Lab

Just imagine...........There are only 10 facilities like this in the world, and this Building will be the largest in the world. The commissioning process spans the entire design and construction process. It starts at the planning and design phase with planning and design charrettes. The contractor is representing the Army Corp of Engineers as the commissioning agent for the Biosafety Lab 4 (BSL4). 

We are seeking a Commissioning Specialist at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD.

The successful candidates must have:

-A bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering and 5 years of field work
-Experience in writing commissioning specifications
-Acted as the principal Commissioning Agent for at least three projects of comparable size, type and scope
-Extensive experience in the operation and troubleshooting of Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and energy management control systems
-Knowledge of testing requirements for mechanical systems; testing and balancing of both air and water systems; national building and fire codes as well as water-based fire extinguishing systems, detection systems and alarms systems; and building operation and maintenance and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) training
-Technical training in fire protection engineering
-Experience in energy-efficient equipment design and control strategy optimization and with total building commissioning approach including building envelope, data and communication systems and other specialty systems
-Specific experience with specialty systems relative to the particular facility type (i.e. federal blast and progressive collapse requirements, security systems, etc.)
-Direct experience in monitoring and analyzing system operation using energy management control system trending and stand-alone datalogging equipment
-Excellent verbal and writing communication skills, highly organized and able to work with both management and trade contractors

The selected candidate will provide expertise for quality assurance of approved building systems and components during construction (HVAC, Mechanical, Electrical, Elevators, etc.) of this BSL4.  When the project is near completion, the contractor conducts rigorous performance tests. Mechanical systems testing milestones should be confirmed during the Red Zone meeting. At contract completion, building operators receive training and documentation to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the facility.
