Database Analyst

 

The Database Analyst will be responsible for all aspects (from data architecture, database design to development and implementation, and support) of product databases and data warehouses. This position is expected to be very hands-on and involved at a technical level. This position is expected to interface with many different groups in the company, so strong communication skills are fundamental. This position reports to a Senior Director of Engineering.

 

Responsibilities

 

· Management of several SQL Server and Oracle databases

· Database design for any Products being developed

· Data warehouse design and implementation for products

· ETL process design, implementation and monitoring

· Designing and implementing end-user reports

· Database deployment (replicating and customizing one or more Production databases in our different customer sites)

· Responsible for database availability, backups, etc. (administration)

· Responsible for data quality, integrity and consistency.

· Leading full-cycle database projects; developing and maintaining project timelines for database-oriented projects

· Develop and maintain QA / test database environment(s)

 

Requirements:

 

· 5 years Information Technology experience – at least 3 years of Database development experience

· Must have worked in a similar position, with a high level of responsibility, for at least 3 years

· Technical skills:

o  Highly proficient in SQL Server 2000 and 2005

o  Highly proficient in Oracle 9i or 10g (PL/SQL procedures, administration, DDL, etc.)

o  Extensive experience in database design (transactional databases)

o  Must have participated in several full-cycle database development projects from design to implementation

o  Experience in data warehouse design and methodology (ODS / data staging / multidimensional design)

o  ETL process design and implementation (data staging techniques, metadata, database synchronization, monitoring, etc.)

o  Knowledge in at least one high-end ETL tool (DTS, SSIS, Informatica, etc.) AND at least one high-end       reporting application (Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Business Objects, Microstrategy)

o  Database experience in both SQL Server and Oracle environments

o  Knowledge of Unix / Linux (shellscripting)

o  Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other related field/Masters degree preferred.

· Personal skills:

o  Strong communication skills. Will often act as a liaison between different teams and must understand and               be able to address their different needs

o  Able to multi-task, negotiate and respond to multiple, often conflicting requests

o  Self-reliant, collaborative, able to function efficiently both in as part of a team or individually

o  Extremely detail-oriented – must consistently produce high-quality work and ensure that data quality can     always be trusted throughout all databases.

o  High-functioning under pressure
