Position Title:  Director of Product Development

 

Company: $60 million division of a $200 million home décor company

 

Company Profile: Fashion Forward Importer Primarily Traditional and Transitional Lamps, Wall Décor and Accent Furniture

 

Department:    Product Development

 

Reports To:    VP of Product Development

 

Salary Range:  Depends on Years of Experience-(Must include salary requirements to be considered)

Position Summary: The Product Development Director is responsible for the procurement and selection of home décor products to include the following: lamps, decorative accessories, wall décor and accent furniture for the company.  Key customers include national home décor retailers, department stores, and furniture stores.

 

Essential Functions:Works with Product Development Team, Sales Team and Buyers from National Retailers to create new product and product lines for sales presentations to current and future clients.Regularly communicates with Buyers and Key Account Managers to discuss and determine furniture preferences and needs. Designs, develops & directs the creation of all new product lines on a monthly basis.  Stays abreast of home décor trends by attending trade shows and performing competitive shopping.  Establishes and maintains publisher relations.  Stays up-to-date on current trends and key artists.  Negotiates and secures product at the best price from suppliers.

 

Education:Two year degree in Art or design.  Four year degree preferred.

 

Minimum Qualifications:Preference given to candidates with product development experience in the home décor industry.

 

Essential Skills:An interest in home decorating and home décor.A flair for being creative.Design trend savvy.Fashion forward orientation with a strong sense of personal style.Detail oriented.Devotion to following-up.Strong negotiation skills.Energetic personality with the ability to connect with all types of people. Excellent verbal and written communications skill set.Proficient with the Microsoft Office.Must be willing to travel within the U.S. and internationally an estimated 25%.
