The Entry Level Environmental Scientist will perform and report on specific environmental project tasks, and will research, analyze and recommend solutions to technical problems in accordance with accepted scientific and research principles and practices. Work may include remedial design calculations, technology research, work plan and report preparation, records searches, site reconnaissance, field investigation oversight, and oversight of remedy installations. The Entry Level Environmental Scientist will assist project teams performing leading edge technical and field work for a variety of large and small clients.
Accountabilities
Maintain and expand technical proficiency in your primary scientific discipline.
Apply scientific knowledge and methods to problem solution development in one or more of the following areas: contaminant fate and transport; remedial technology selection and implementation; site restoration design and permitting; hazardous waste handling and disposal; site due diligence inspection; site history and regulatory review.
Conduct field investigation work including soil, ground water, surface water, and sediment sample collection, as well as in-situ and laboratory testing
Compile and present findings, and prepare written work products including work plans, technical memorandums, reconnaissance reports, and formal reports
Perform regulatory agency record reviews, literature reviews, site reconnaissance and documentation, and client interaction in support of project objectives
Execute specific defined tasks in accordance with accepted guidelines and regulations, including local, state, and federal regulations
Utilize computer applications to develop solutions to scientific problems
Perform tasks that are structured to enhance experience and familiarity with project scope and purpose, and with company methods, practices and procedures
Responsibly and effectively manage own time and effort in accordance with project priorities and objectives
Work with other task team members and leaders.
Maintain contact with client representatives, subcontractors, and vendors
Travel as required
Knowledge/Experience
Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, or related field; Minimum BS/BA, MS/PhD preferred
Ability to apply analytical or scientific thinking to define and solve problems, especially in the areas of chemical fate and transport, chemical degradation, chemical forensics
Ability to work at a desk and use computers on a regular basis, with proficiency in MS Office application software such as Excel, Word, and other programs and applications as they pertain to scientific inquiry
Ability to work outdoors regularly under various weather conditions and in varying terrain
Ability to complete hazardous operations training (OSHA 1910.120) and to perform work in hazardous environments
Ability to understand project objectives and to arrange work flow and priorities accordingly
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with management, staff and clients
Ability to work as part of a team, under general supervision
Ability to legally operate a vehicle and to travel for periods of up to a week or more
