Mechanical Engineering Department Head

OVERVIEW: An aggressive growth oriented Architectural Engineering, Consulting and Construction Management firm has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead an expanding Department. The position, located in the Richmond, VA area, is with a prominent privately held Engineering firm, and reports to the President. The key role focuses on directing the various client projects of the firm, spearheads several Business Development aspects, promotes comprehensive services to Clients and provides leadership and support to all Associates, both within the Department and across company functions.

 

ROLE: The Department Head provides management oversight on all full and multi –service projects; directs the design of all HVAC, plumbing, fire prevention and safety, building code requirements and oversees all proposals and final projects to ensure that clients receive the highest quality mechanical engineering services. The person will supervise seven employees. Candidates must have their PE certification. 

 

REQUIREMENTS: Qualified candidates must have a BSME degree, (Master’s is a plus), a Professional Engineering Certification, a minimum of 15 years of direct experience working as a key member of a ME Department along with the supervisory role of leading Mechanical Engineering teams. The person must also have a demonstrated ability to execute complex technical projects, manage multiple tasks and priorities, lead a team of professionals, support managers, project personnel and administrative staff. The position also requires excellent communication and writing skills, strong computer skills with AutoCAD, all MS Office software including MS Project, previous business development responsibility, ability to understand and manage financial data and reports.
