Product Designer 08-023
MGA ENTERTAINMENT is leading the revolution in family and children’s entertainment, developing a broad range of proprietary and licensed products by using new technologies never before applied to its products. POSITION SUMMARY
Design, develop & test a variety of innovative toys to achieve CSP (Cost, Schedule & Performance) per MGA standards, branding objectives and project plan. Provide expert leadership to improve the development & evaluation processes and to develop best practices I the area of product creation. Provide innovative designs in developing for retail/consumer goods, new products, improvements, refreshes and cost reduction. Provide creative leadership that fosters use of cutting edge technologies and innovative design approaches in design solutions for consumer market.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Full cycle experience and knowledge of complete design process. Familiarity with all materials and their respective processes and costing
· Evaluate designs for cost effectiveness, considering material options, global sourcing, manufacturability etc
· Be abreast of new and emerging technologies in product materials, treatments & processes.
· Sustain current designs for improvements in quality and cost.
· Work directly with each Designer in development designs and tooling.
· Perform necessary focus tests on new designs to ensure compliance with the brand and target age.
· Develop, manage and sustain documentation of new designs to ensure high-level accuracy in what is communicated.
· Perform preliminary design feasibilities to determine proper size, style and affordability.
· Knowledge of brand, consumer, graphic, associated equipment and materials
· Accountable for Cost, Schedule and Performance of the designs
· Creative/innovative thinking towards solutions in designing a variety of designs for best possible shelf appeal
· Participate in vendor submission.
· Create samples for a variety of uses:
o Marketing: Evaluation and approval of size and style. Address “perceived value”.
o Graphic Design: Package comps.
o Sales: Sales samples.
o Production: Physical sample for reference.
· Document all designs:
o Drawings: Stand alone drawing giving all specifications required to produce a product component.
o Description Lists: Design components should sustain levels of description, including the features of toy/product.
o Action Memo: Sent to all relevant parties to alert them to newly released or revised Drawings and Parts Lists to appropriate personal (HK, Packaging team, Directors, etc..
o Interface with Production Facilities to minimize changes in packaging and ensure timely delivery.
o Evaluate production samples to ensure material quality and product placement are as specified.
o Seek opportunities to cost-reduce existing design and or packaging for products while maintaining “perceived value”.

4. Will not retaliate against any associate and will report retaliation to appropriate personnel immediately. EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONBS in product design or related technical field required or equivalent direct industry experience.Additional certification a plus
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERREDMinimum of 1 years experience in design & development of retail (preferably for toy products).Ability to design and document complex retail productsKnowledge of a variety of design/ packaging / materials including plastics.Complete knowledge of costs associated with different materials used in package design.Complete knowledge of methods for retail products General knowledge of graphic printing, associated equipment and materialsAbility to create complex product component drawings using Computer aide programsAbility to meet MGA quality standards.Ability to test materials and final product per industry standards.Good working knowledge of modeling and manufacturing.Able to handle multiple projects simultaneouslyProactive thinker and problem solverStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAble to deal with changing prioritiesAbility to finish a project on timeGood follow through skillsDetail orientedPositive and strong personalityGood organizational skillsExceptional time management skillsGood oral and communicational skills Self Starter and Team player
