Project Landscape Architect

Howard R. Green Company, a consulting engineering and architecture firm with over 90 years of history is expanding and is currently seeking a Project Landscape Architect.  The position may be located in our Des Moines, IA, Cedar Rapids, IA, or St. Paul, MN office.

SUMMARY
The Project Landscape Architect I acts as an authorized agent of the company and is responsible for the delivery of a variety of products, from master planning studies to construction documents on time and on/under budget. Makes significant design decisions in cooperation with Project Manager for assigned projects, where applicable. May responsible for assisting with marketing, business development, project management and client communication on a limited and assigned basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Uses professional judgment to direct and independently complete assigned landscape architecture designs. Compiles and analyzes data on such site conditions as geographic location; soil, vegetation, and rock features; drainage; and location of structures for preparation of environmental impact report and development of landscaping plans Prepares site plans, working drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for land development, showing ground contours, vegetation, locations of structures, and such facilities as roads, walks, parking areas, fences, walls, and utilities, coordinating arrangement of existing and proposed land features and structures Creates graphics to assist the client in understanding the vision of their project. Assists in marketing efforts for new and existing clients by preparing graphics for proposals, brochures, and handouts Checks the accuracy (formal and informal QA/QC) of assigned tasks completed by other professional and technical staff. Makes design decisions that meet the needs of external customers while coordinating the impact of such decisions on related project efforts. Proactively identifies technical, schedule or financial issues and seeks resolution from the Project Manager and/or the client, as appropriate to the situation. Assists the Client in bidding or contractor selection if authorized by the Project Manager. Monitors construction and supervises field personnel assigned to a task, data collection or a specific project. Responds to contractor questions and issues and prepares and issues project addenda as needed. Recommends and prepares change orders. May participate in the creation of engineering services proposals, including the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs of the proposed work. Independently communicates on technical matters with the client.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
The Project Landscape Architect must possess a Bachelor’s of Landscape Architecture degree (BLA) from an accredited college or university; and three to five years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current designation as a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) highly preferred.

Must possess strong communication and public speaking skills enabling successful presentation of materials and design to client and public groups.

Experience with office software (Word, Excel, etc.), visualization software such as Adobe Creative Suite (photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and CADD software and other design automation tools is required.
