Structual Detailer

Authority, Scope and Basic Function

 

The position has primary responsibility to prepare complex, highly detailed and accurate drawings of parts, connectors, structural support apparatus, components, fixtures, cables and network elements used in the project. The result will be workable drawings to be used in fabrication, production and eventual site installation. Working, in some cases, from sketches and incomplete architectural specifications, must collaborate closely with Project Engineering to convert information into detailed physical documentation incorporating specific requirements as to finish, tolerance, dimension, in order for drawings to be used in fabrication, purchasing and installation of the project.

 

Essential Duties and Principal Responsibilities

 

a.        Prepares complete concept and submittal drawings for submission to Project Engineer for review.

b.        Performs dimensional checks on all drawings, and in collaboration with Project Engineer, evaluates constructability, issues of tolerance and any issues which may affect the fabrication or installation processes.

c.        Completes custom fabrication drawings on each assigned project for use by Production or suppliers.  In collaboration with Project Engineer, responds to  RFIs in the course of design and installation of the structure.

d.       Prepares release forms for material fabrication in cooperation with Project Engineering and the Team Leader.

e.        Assists in maintenance of logs.

f.         Assists in the preparation of project submittals, and with archiving of drawing files in accordance with company procedures.

g.       Performs all project work in a very accurate fashion and in accordance with project deadlines.

h.       Makes recommendations on how to better standardize and/or reduce costs of components utilized in the project. Assists Project Engineering and Project Management in identifying those repeat technical items or solutions which could be performed more efficiently.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

Minimum of 2 years of experience within a steel fabrication environment.  BS of Engineering or Architectural Design preferred

 

·         Organized and highly detailed with excellent accuracy.

·         Willingness to work within deadlines.

·         Ability to work within a team setting in achieving corporate growth goals.

·         Use of basic computer tools and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD. Strong familiarity with 3-D highly preferred.)
