Job Description/Requirements:
Apex Systems is looking for an Accounting Director. This is a permanent opportunity with a large automobile website. Qualified candidates will have A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or other related field, 7+ years of experience in Accounting, SEC reporting, and managing professional staff. To be a good fit for this opportunity, you will be a CPA with a solid working knowledge of SEC and regulatory and reporting requirements. You will also need to have knowledge of SOX 404 compliance regulations, a thorough understanding of GAAP, especially revenue recognition, as well as knowledge of accounting for stock options and thorough understanding of FAS 123R. In addition, you will need to be proficient in PC based software and Windows applications such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook. A strong detail orientation, solid organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines will also be required.
The ideal candidate will have industry experience, and experience using a client-based accounting system such as Great Plains Dynamics and FRX Report Writer or Cognos. Familiarity with stock plan management software such as Equity Edge would also be a plus.
Job functions: Your mission will be to ensure timely and accurate compliance with all SEC regulations and external financial reporting, managing the preparation and distribution of financial statements. You also will act as technical consultant to management regarding complex reporting and revenue recognition matters. Reporting to the Vice President and Controller, you will interact regularly with accounting and finance personnel as well as other management personnel throughout the organization. You'll have extensive interaction with independent auditors and various outside vendors and agencies.
As you might expect, your activities will peak on a quarterly basis, as you will assume ownership of all required filings. While you will oversee the process of preparing 10-K, 10-Q, and other SEC filings as necessary, you will collaborate with other accounting and finance leaders in developing finished product.
During off-peak periods you will contribute to a number of other areas, leveraging your technical expertise. For example, you'll help with the monthly close process regarding share based compensation, revenue recognition and deferred revenue, and more. You'll work closely with our Manager of Revenue Accounting and Director of Business Assurance regarding Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance, and you'll provide input on the tax provision and other tax matters.
Your specific activities will include: Reviewing all regulatory reports and preparing the annual and quarterly reports and proxy statements. Developing internal board reports and any ad hoc reports requested by management. Performing the accounting for share-based compensation plans as required under FAS 123R. Assisting in preparing required SOX documentation relating to the accounting department. Assisting in the coordination of the organizations external audit. Assisting with the oversight of monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing and consolidation processes. Overseeing the quarterly tax provision, accounting and related disclosure. Researching, analyzing, and implementing new accounting literature (FASB, EITF, etc), including drafting management's position on various technical accounting matters.

You will be responsible for a number of deliverables, so organizational and time management skills will be essential. In addition, you'll need to be flexible in handling the increased workload that comes at the end of each period.
