Requirements

Goodyear North American Tire is looking for a seasoned Purchasing Professional to assume the role of Sr Technical Buyer, with a focus on the energy needs of the business. This position is located at the corporate headquarters' in Akron, OH.

Goodyear is North America's largest tire company, manufacturing and marketing tires for most applications. It also manufactures and markets several lines of power transmission belts, hose and other rubber products for the transportation industry and various industrial and consumer markets. Goodyear is one of the world's largest operators of commercial truck service and tire retreading centers. In addition, it operates about 1,800 tire and auto service center outlets. Goodyear manufactures its products in more than 100 facilities in 29 countries, producing more than 200 million tires annually. It has marketing operations in almost every country around the world. Goodyear's 2005 net sales totaled nearly $20 billion.

Goodyear's NAT Energy expenditures are in excess of $175MM - a major impact on EBIT and cash flow. Key elements in this area of spending are: Natural Gas, Electricity and Nitrogen. Extreme cost reduction pressure in order to conserve cash and spending has resulted in a Purchasing restructuring to increase visibility and focus on most viable opportunities for rapid, sustainable savings.

Major Responsibilities
* Negotiate with existing supply base in the area of energy by applying the appropriate strategies and available procurement tools for North America demand requirements.
* Prioritize negotiation opportunities in the area of energy to realize and maximize savings from supplier consolidation or contract re-negotiation on a regional basis through cross functional involvement.
* Analyse results from market research and potential demand aggregation in the area of energy to exercise maximum influence upon suppliers and to implement the appropriate leverage to the negotiation opportunities where current price reduction or cost avoidance is achievable.
* Manage and direct third party energy management service providers to realize and maximize their value proposition to the business unit
* Serve in consulting role for the development of local plant strategies and plans with SBU/Functional goals and objectives.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
* Bachelor's or higher level degree
* A minimum of 5 years work experience in purchasing or management of energy or energy sales
* Working knowledge of plant operations
* Working experience with contracts (utilities, equipment and/or services) and their legal ramifications
* Proven ability to read technical specifications and drawings

DESIRED:
* Familiarity with annual reports and financial analysis
* Knowledge of SOX regulations as they pertain to energy
* Knowledge of e-Commerce tools, Cash flow, Cost accounting
