Manufacturing Computer Applications Engineer

Global Engineering & Manufacturing Technology (GE&MT) has the responsibility for inventing, designing and delivering product and process technologies to make Goodyear's Business Strategies achievable. This department engineers and integrates new technologies to support new products and increased manufacturing capability. It also provides direct and timely support to plant production, engineering, maintenance and energy conservation.

Experience with Unix or Linux operating systems and working knowledge of database stored procedures and with programming languages C/C++, Visual Studio tools, Java, J2EE will help the successful candidate assume responsibility for the development of computer applications for the manufacturing operations, including participating in standards and strategies for the engineering computing environment. This includes working with software applications development, computer hardware, operating systems, systems software, utilities and tools, back up and recovery solutions, program interfaces and Web-based applications development for manufacturing floor applications. Occasional plant trips will be required to coordinate the installation and startup of systems or system upgrades and the training of plant technicians.

Ideal candidates will possess a minimum of a BS in engineering or related technical field, eg computer science, or equivalent work experience in computer systems technology (three years minimum). Demonstrated ability with PC-based technologies, networks and Web-based technologies and demonstrated ability/experience with Microsoft Windows server and workstation maintenance, configuration and administration as well as Web-based design, including servers and browsers, configuration and administration are required. The successful candidate will also possess good communication skills, experience leading and participating in a cross-functional support team environment, as well as the abilities to interact with customers from a broad range of computer experience and skill levels and to interface with and manage outside consultants/contractors. The successful candidate will be willing to travel (10-20%) and work off-hours.

Working knowledge of databases and structures (Oracle preferred), along with working knowledge of, and experience with, PowerBuilder, scripting languages (ie VBscript, Javascript, etc), PHP scripting language and/or SQR report builder preferred. Knowledge of Ethernet connectivity, control systems and PLCs a plus.
