Department Description:
The Mold Planning and Process Support department is responsible for the planning, scheduling, sourcing, manufacturing, operation and maintenance support of all tire molds for the North America and Latin America businesses. The department also manages all capital for molds for the NAT business. This includes budget preparation, cashflow and asset management from creation to asset retirement. The Mold Planning and Process Support department also develops and maintains all applications and tools that are used to carry out its responsibilities.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Mold Technical Specialist is responsible for mold and equipment design support, mold manufacturing support and mold use and maintenance support.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
*Provide mold manufacturing guidance to mold design engineers and team leaders.
*Provide mold procurement, inspection and checkout activities.
*Provide mold manufacturing expertise and guidance to Akron and local plant mold shops.
*Develop and maintain mold maintenance and repair procedures.
*Train mold shops in the proper techniques for repairing molds.
*Provide guidance and instructions to tire manufacturing plant associates in the proper use, maintenance and repair of molds.
*Maintain and distribute documented mold maintenance, repair and use procedures and standards.
*Develop new mold technologies and standards.
*Participate on teams with other mold design engineers, tire designers, associates from manufacturing facilities, associates from sales and marketing and other technical organizations to bring new tire products to market.
*Work closely with company owned and outside manufacturers of molds during the mold manufacturing process.
*The successful candidate will use enterprise level tools and systems in the execution of their duties such as
*MS Access database tools, project management tools, Excel spreadsheets, SAP, among other tools and software.

**The level and title (Engineer/Technical Specialist) of this position will vary based on qualifications and experience**

Qualifications:

Required-
* BSME, BSMET or a Bachelor's or higher level degree in another technical field.
* 3 or more years experience in a technical field with significant responsibility for mold or equipment design and manufacturing.
*Thorough understanding of manufacturing machine tools, expert in mold or equipment manufacturing processes and experience in mold or equipment use and repair.
*Proven experience and a thorough understanding of best in class design and machine shop practices, expertise in tooling, jigs and fixturing.
*Thorough understanding of the latest methods of mold or equipment part manufacturing.
*Working knowledge of mechanical design and drafting procedures and be able to read and understand engineering drawings in 2D and 3D.
*Ability to readily visualize 3D objects in space.
*Creative and innovative (design or develop engineering solutions to meet the ever changing business needs).
*Ability to follow design criteria and detailed engineering procedures and instructions and have very good analytical and problem solving skills.
*Detail oriented and have good documentation and technical writing skills.
*Excellent oral and written communications skills.
*Good interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a dynamic team environment and comfortable and credible interacting with both technical and business organizations.
*Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision - demonstrates a sense of urgency.
*Two or more years experience planning and managing projects. Expert in knowledge and use of all MS Office Professional suite of tools. Strong organizational and time management skills.
*Willing to participate as an active team member and group leader, practice effective listening skills and effective collaboration skills.
*Proven work history utilizing skills necessary to achieve all objectives through use of approved standards, guidelines and recommendations.
*Candidate must be available for travel 30% to 40% of the time globally on trips that may last up 6 weeks per trip.

Preferred-
*Knowledge of the tire manufacturing process or related rubber parts manufacturing experience
