The Hybrid powertrain controls calibration and system integration group is the key team in defining the character and operation of the hybrid powertrain.
Compile software/calibration set for hybrid system controllers for release to be released to the platform, on-time, with excellenceWork with the powertrain teams, engine teams and algorithm/software teams to develop a controls/calibration package that balances fuel economy, drive quality, performance, and component durabilitySupport integration of the powertrain into the vehicle system, working hand-in-hand with the Vehicle Integration groupDefine new hybrid functionality needed to meet desired powertrain/vehicle functionality (e.g., write Algorithm Change Requests, support software Product Management Team/Product Development Team)Keep thorough documentation of changes, developments for each release packageOrganize logistics and test trips Develop powertrain functionality on tests trips to extreme ambient conditions testing (e.g., Canada, MN (cold), Las Vegas (hot), Death Valley (hot), CO (altitude), NYC (traffic), High-Feature Test Facility at MPG, etc.).Travel for test trips 1-2 wks at a time, at least every 2 monthsBe available at least by phone during off-hours and weekends (within reason)Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programsProvides technical leadership for advanced technology development Performs complex design analysis Develops engineering designs (including subsystems) Implements engineering changes Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data Defines system requirements Solves engineering related problems Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs Plans and implements test and/or development programs Releases parts and subsystems for production Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products Travels as required
Basic Required
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent training High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design Excellent oral and written communications skills High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others Understanding of design and manufacturing processes Ability to work independently and with others Knowledge of computer engineering software
Basic Preferred
MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent training Experience with Matlab/Simulink Experience with Engineering Tools, Applications, and Services (ETAS/INCA) Engine/Transmission calibration experience 2 or more years of calibration engineering experience Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms Familiarity with production processes such as foundry, forging, pressed metal and machine tool activities Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods engineering Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
