Account Manager / Sales Engineer
Position Title: Account Manager or Sales Engineer
Facility/Location: Grand Haven, possibly Novi
Department: Sales
Reports To (title): Business Development Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Range: $75,000 to $90,000 (pay rate is based on experience level)
Education and Experience:
· At least 7 years automotive industry experience in Sales or related
· Experience successfully selling technical products
· Bachelors of Science/Engineering or Business, Engineering background preferred
· Good mathematical and analytical ability
· GM or Chrysler experience preferred
Other Requirements:
· Frequent travel to customers
· Occasional travel to foreign countries
· Professional appearance and presentation
Position Summary:
Maintain good customer focus and support. Identify price information on all current and obsolete parts, including independent preparation for cost sheets, special cost studies and distribution of cost information to proper personnel. Prepare and execute various customer correspondence, price adjustments, etc. Available for travel and to entertain customers. Participate in technical courses. Primary function will be to plan and perform sales and marketing efforts. This activity will be done using all principles of good salesmanship, including personal customer visits, telephone selling, group selling, plus participation in technical and professional associations. Responsible for developing complete proposals in conjunction with the Business Unit Manager and support staff. Lead and actively participate in problem solving. Perform other activities as assigned.
Sales Support: Consistently meet overall area sales goals. Make regular sales calls on existing major accounts and establish contact with new accounts. Make effective customer presentations, proposal pricing is accurate and technically correct. Strength in selling maintenance and engineering services is desirable. History of new account development a plus.
Marketing Support: Promote the Company’s image throughout the industry. Implement area marketing plan. Assist corporate needs in new service assessments, marketing research and literature development.
Public Relations Support: Promote sales through active participation in trade shows and professional societies; give effective presentations for the Company.
Duties Include, but not limited to:
· Initiates and updates cost sheets and prepares price revision information. Issues price quotations on current and service parts. If customer revises print and/or specifications, evaluate the quoted price to determine if it is still efficient.
· Update documentation as relevant, including follow-up to insure proper recording, verifying and acknowledging customer purchase orders and contracts.
· Maintains Quote records for awarded projects.
· Maintains Quote records for projects that are not awarded.
· Reviews raw material, purchase parts and purchased operations cost and prices - advising appropriate personnel of cost/price problems or discrepancies.
· Releases engineering change action plans.
· Verifies retroactive pricing debits and credits upon receipt of purchase orders and communicates with accounting.
· Submits all pricing to computer center for verification and invoicing purposes.
· Investigate, determine and recommend actions to be taken in regards to disputed customer debits and credits. Prepares customer correspondence regarding correction.
· Supports the review of all labor cost data including analyzing production sequences, labor rates and relating these to the theoretical labor cost and standards shown on our permanent cost records.
· Advises production and Business Unit Manager of these discrepancies.
· Support cost sheet developments by cost estimating department. Update database to assist with preparation of cost estimates.
· Manage records, database and forecast updates.
· Support follow-up for invoicing obsolescence and tooling upon receipt of sample approval. Prepare listing and manage distribution.
· Prepares monthly prototype sales and dollar reports. Coordinates all prototype activities and assures adequate timing for meeting customer requirements.
· Compose customer letters when required for price origination, or revision. Manage communication internally and externally around pricing changes. Prepare various customer correspondences, including acknowledging delivery promises or releases and later follow-up to obtain purchase orders to cover engineering changes. Advises personnel of volume discrepancies between quotes and schedules.
· Daily contact with key customer purchasing and engineering personnel. Make sales calls on a regular basis and records important customer requirements.
· Prepares cost letter for customer commitments concerning obsolete parts or materials.
· Professional telephone contact with customer purchasing and engineering activities. Always using the golden rule policy.
· Maintain sales file on customer purchase order activities.
· Professional correspondence.
