Job Description

 

The Apprentice Instructor - Maintenance is responsible for developing and providing instruction of basic electrical and mechanical concepts to all maintenance Apprentices in the LuK Apprenticeship Program.  This person must maintain knowledge of related tools, equipment and processes to be used throughout the LuK production area.  S/he will determine the training associated with this aspect of the apprenticeship program, including designing training exercises/projects, applying knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, schematic design, and equipment building and repair.  This will require that the individual in this position builds electrical cabinets, designs electrical schematics and programs and modifies PLCs.  This person will develop and administrate maintenance apprentice testing, and will conduct lab experiments for electromechanical, PLC programming, hydraulics and pneumatics, as well as repairing and rebuilding existing machines in all departments.  S/he will demonstrate procedures to the apprentices, and will observe apprentices in the shop and answer questions as necessary.  Excellent communication and mentoring skills are essential for successful performance in this position, as this individual will be a role model by whom apprentices learn LuK quality, and performance standards with respect to electronics and maintenance.

 

Knows and understands the specifications of the Quality Policy and Procedures and contributes to the achievement of the quality objectives.

 

CRITICAL SKILLS: 

Technical:  PLC, Electrical Schematic Design, Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Techniques & knowledge of current quality specifications.

Interpersonal:  Communication, teaching skills.

Organizational:  Prioritize, follow schedule.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

Two year technical degree with a minimum of 5 years professional experience in industrial maintenance, profound knowledge in the electrical field and basic/fundamental knowledge and experience in the mechanical or vice versa, electrical schematic design, and building and maintaining equipment.  In addition, this individual must have formalized related teaching experience. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:   

Ability to lift and move 40 lbs, ability to sit at a work station for extended periods
