The Auto Parts Group, a $300+ million, fast-growing division of Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc., is seeking a Buyer for our Leominster, MA location.  Schnitzer is a 100 year old publicly traded company with revenues in excess of $1.5 billion.  The Auto Parts Group is a fast growing division within Schnitzer that is focused on consolidating the highly fragmented recycled auto parts market.  The Auto Parts Group consists of two operating divisions, Pick-n-Pull Auto Dismantlers and GreenLeaf Auto Recyclers, our self-service and full-service auto and truck dismantling division respectively. 

 

Responsibilities of the Buyer are to The Buyer is responsible for providing salvage to the company.  This is through channels such as: Rental Companies, Auto Dismantlers, Salvage Pools, Government auctions, Dealers, Fleets, Auto Adjusters, and other similar sources.

 

Duties shall include but not be limited to the following:

 

·  Communicate frequently with the various branch managers to determine salvage needs.

 

·  Review repairable pricing with branch management and recommend adjustments and/or retrain as required.

 

·  Maintain bid files, follow up on bids and coordinate flow of paperwork through the office to prevent problem cars from getting out of hand while clearing within 30 days.

 

·  Establish criteria, develop and implement guidelines as they pertain to bid notes and train and coordinate with branch management.

 

·  Operate under the following criteria and goals:

o  Buy within the budget.

o  Buy according to our ability to handle the salvage.

o  Buy what we need.

o  Buy what sells.

o  Buy items which are profitable.

o  Buy quality, clean merchandise.

o  Strive for an average of four years

o  Continually strive to develop more and better buying contacts through adjusters,   dealers, auto dismantlers, etc.

 

·  Maintain the company vehicle in a clean and serviced condition, handling small repair items and referring major repairs to the Dispatch Department.

 

·  Inspect tin loads to ensure nothing of value is being sent away.

 

·  Other functions performed by the Buyer include:

o  Purchase of some new parts.

o  Purchase of equipment.

o  Purchase of supplies of major orders and new contracts.

o  Deliver cars.

o  Call on the trade.

o  Collection of accounts.

o  Contract negotiations regarding purchasing.

 

·  Stay familiar with all Fitz Auto Parts policies, procedures and manuals and ensure compliance of same.

 

·  Attend scheduled manager meetings and be prepared to discuss issues affecting branch as well as company-wide operations.

 

·  Maintain a clean and neat appearance, wearing company furnished coveralls and employee furnished steel-toed safety shoes while on the job.

 

·  Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by the General Manager and/or Administrative Staff.

 

So, what will it take to be successful?

 

·  High school diploma or equivalent. 

·  Ability to read, write, verbally communicate and comprehend instructions and information.

·  Knowledge of auto and body parts as well as auto mechanics.

·  Valid driver’s license with combination license and physical and a good driving record.
