DESIGN ENGINEER I

QUALIFICATIONS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDesign air brake control system components. Provide creative, manufacturing and service friendly, cost-effective, durable, quality, cost effective, and technically feasible solutions. Interface with the Validation Department to identify and analyze problems encountered in prototype development. Interface with the Product Regulation and Compliance staff to design vehicles that meet government regulations, restrictions and codes. Coordinate with suppliers, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and other engineering personnel in the product development phases. Evaluate state-of-the-art developments in the vehicle industry and apply the latest advances. Apply statistical and engineering techniques in designing and testing. Create drawings and bills of materials and chart these bills. Answer CWO’s (Custom Work Order) related to air brake controls for Freightliner, Sterling, and Western Star vehicles. Take responsibility for CWO’s, shop calls, FRACAS (corrective actions), service problems, and projects in your assigned area of module responsibility.REQUIREMENTS: Work with other departments (Manufacturing, Validation, Engineering, and Purchasing) and Suppliers on developing new valves and systems that meet performance specifications. 20% Design and draw in CATIA new air brake system parts, mountings, locations, plumbing, routing, clamping for various new projects. 40% Create new bills of materials for new designs, chart these bills. 10% Answer Shop Calls, FRACAS, Service problems, CWO’s. 30%BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 1 year of mechanical structures and/or component design experience is required, including recent 3D CATIA experience.
