QUALIFICATIONS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSLeading and efficiently managing the department with the Chassis commodity groups for the respective products of Freightliner, Western Star, Sterling as well as the entire volume of buy for FCC and TBB. Opening up the most effective sources of supply in terms of price level, quality, supply, innovation, and technology. In the sense of “lead-buying”, enhance and support global cooperation within procurement and leverage opportunities for global purchasing synergies. Optimize material costs in collaboration with suppliers, engineering and plants.Contribution to purchasing projects and new product projects.REQUIREMENTS: Leadership Fulfill general management tasks for direct report employees Develop workforce in terms of hard fact knowledge, soft skills and intercultural competence Performance evaluation, qualification/development plans Reconcilement with sponsors/customers Regular information and communication within department Decide on new employees within departmentPlanning & controlling of activities of department Plan and effectively control use of resources (budget, employees), prioritize topics Resolve problems in day-to-day business Continuous optimization of department structure and alignment with overall PTG and GP&S strategiesLead buying, commodity and supplier strategies Actively promote volume bundling and utilization of synergy effects within lead-buying model and based on agreed strategies Participate in respective commodity board(s) to work out globally harmonized strategies on commodities and suppliers Serve as escalation level (also with other functional departments) in case of non-agreement on work-level in commodity and/or supplier relevant cases finalize and locally implement supplier strategiesMarket analysis & supplier sets Cater for extensive and continuous market analysis in order to enhance transparency about relevant high-performance sources of supply and supplier market Initiate and realize sourcing strategies for respective commodities Initiate use of supply opportunities in low-cost countries and emerging markets within area of responsibilityLife-cycle-Management, sourcing negotiations, change management Negotiations and approval of sourcing scopes, tool costs and price changes (depending on threshold). Plan, lead, monitor, and assess negotiations with suppliers; coordinate and prepare decisions or decide on long-term contracts, single/global-sourcing, volume bundling in accordance with existing commodity strategies (according to threshold) Initiate measures with suppliers within model upgrading/model change incl. achievement of target costs, due dates and target stage of maturityMaterial cost and supply-base structure optimization, vertical integration Initiate and control projects to optimize product design and/or product and process cost Support suppliers to reach cost targets Support and execute make-or-buy analyses as prerequisite to decide on vertical integration levelWorldwide co-operation Initiate and organize for worldwide co-operation with the relevant purchasing organizations, both within the Truck Group organization as well as within Global Procurement & Supply, especially in the areas of strategy implementation, volume bundling and utilization of synergy effects. Co-ordination of the worldwide interests as well as joint development of strategies for the respective commodity, derived from the business unit targets and strategies. Participation in respectively lead of global projects for optimization of cost, supply and quality.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in technical/business related field or similar. Minimum eleven (11) years functional experience and profound knowledge in purchasing and purchasing-related areas in several functions OR Master’s degree plus equivalent experience. Experience in cross-functional project work, work-abroad experience, personnel management expertise. Negotiating skills, conflict management, ability of expressing oneself, product knowledge commercial vehicles, legal basics.
