The Company:

Wells is a business unit of United Components Inc. and a leading marketer/manufacturer of automotive engine management components sold in the North American aftermarket.  We have been supplying quality auto parts to the aftermarket and OEM’s since 1903!  Today we provide 33,000 part numbers to the professional mechanic.  Due to our continued growth, our electro-mechanical engineering group has an opening for an experienced Engineer. This position reports to the Engineering Manager. 

 

The Position:Provides support to Purchasing for assigned product categories by determining if vendor supplied finished end assemblies meet OEM fit, form and function criteria.  For manufactured parts, (for assigned product categories), develops product that is OEM equivalent in fit, form and function.  Supports manufacturing (Reynosa, Mexico) on existing production (for your categories) regarding manufacturing issues that may impact fit, form and function by participation in determining root cause of the manufacturing issues and developing acceptable solutions to maintain the fit, form and function parameters.  Responsible for processing engineering change notices, bill of materials etc.Initially you will be responsible for the following product categories:   ignition wire sets, oil pressure sensors, stoplight switches, miscellaneous switches and PCV valves. 

 

Position Requirements:Requires a 4 year degree in mechanical engineering and previous experience designing  basic assemblies (or developing significant design modifications to basic assemblies) that contained molded, machined and stamped parts.  Exposure to die cast parts a plus.  Must have several years of product development experience or significant product design modification experience. This should include maintaining responsibility for the product through first production runs.   You should have strong written and verbal communication skills, be able to multitask and meet project deadlines.  You will need experience using a CAD system and intermediate experience with Word and Excel.   Prefer engineers with TS16949 or ISO experience.  May require occasional travel.
