Reporting To:  Director of Vehicle & Powertrain Engineering

 

Job Purpose:  The Manager of Advanced Technology Product Development will establish a technology roadmap and oversee and guide the development of component technologies for advanced hybrid vehicle powertrains to be used in future applications.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

·  Understand/develop/optimize advanced hybrid vehicle components and system requirements for vehicle applications, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles

·  Current, up-to-date knowledge of the state-of-the-art in the industry for advanced battery systems, ultra capacitors, traction motors, generators, inverters, IC engines, fuel cells and other hybrid powertrain components

·  Industry knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and technology pathways in order to  work with component suppliers to develop advanced component specifications

·  Develop technology roadmap based on vehicle needs to optimize cost, efficiency, performance, and packaging for future vehicle applications

·  Write component specifications for battery systems, ultracapacitors, traction motors, generators, inverters, IC engines, fuel cells and other hybrid powertrain components

·  Perform vehicle system analysis to determine component requirements for various vehicle applications

·  Perform energy budget assessment using computer modeling analysis tools, such as PSAT (Powertrain System Analysis Toolkit)

·  Write test specifications for components at the component, subsystem and vehicle level

·  Provide technical direction for mechanical packaging and component thermal management (cooling) requirements

·  Perform system FMEA for components and interactions with other vehicle systems.

·  Coordinate development actions with Project Management, Engineering & outside partners.

·  Requires ability to lead a development team from concept to production

·  Ability to document work and present it to others including senior management and customers.

·  Provide technical liaison between engineering and marketing, as well as outside partners and suppliers

·  Provide input to planning and budget activities

·  Proposal generation

Education and/or Experience: 

Required: BSME, EE, or equivalent

10 years minimum specifying, developing, and testing advanced hybrid components for vehicle usage

  Knowledge of IC Engine Operation Principles

  Extensive Knowledge of Vehicle Propulsion Energy Requirements

Extensive knowledge of hybrid and fuel cell vehicle battery system requirements and powertrains 

Analysis using Matlab/Simulink to model vehicle systems

 

Preferred:  MSME, MSEE or PhD, ME, EE, or equivalent

10 years minimum specifying, developing, and testing advanced hybrid components for vehicle usage

  Knowledge of IC Engine Operation Principles

  Extensive Knowledge of Vehicle Propulsion Energy Requirements

Extensive knowledge of hybrid and fuel cell vehicle battery system requirements and powertrains

Physical Job Requirements:

  4 to 8 weeks traveling per year.
