Manufacturing Engineering Manager for Transmission Manufacturing & Assembly

POSITION SUMMARYThis position will report to the TS Director of Mfg. Engineering Technology, but may take day-to-day guidance from the Regional Country Manager. The TS Transmission Manufacturing Engineering Manager's job responsibility necessitates communication with a wide variety of individuals across multiple cultures.  Program work will require contact with BorgWarner group Production, Skilled Trades, Manufacturing, Plant Eng. Teams, Launch Teams, Tooling, Sales, Purchasing personnel, Customers and outside suppliers.   The TS Transmission Manufacturing Engineering Manager applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering & manufacturing principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.  The position makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods.  The TS Transmission Manufacturing Engineering Manager consults with the program managers and other functional managers on unusual problems and developments. The TS Transmission Manufacturing Engineering Manager interfaces with BW facilities in assessing organizational needs relative to new process technology, cost reduction, technical direction, priorities and new business opportunities. He advises and provides direction in process and product development to stay competitive in the marketplace. He is also the leader of the manufacturing council and must be able to interact with all BW-TS facilities worldwide. He will work with the BW-TS Manufacturing Council on technological strategy relative to cost reduction, timing and implementation.   The TS Transmission Manufacturing Engineering Manager provides leadership, direction and task interdependencies to team members and develop, with the team, action plans to meet Business Unit objectives. He will also serve as a consultant and mentor to engineering and operations personnel, sharing knowledge, experience and expertise in the fields of manufacturing process technology and project management.   The TS Transmission Manufacturing Engineering Manager defines total manufacturing system concept for new products & part numbers based on achieving:Employee health & safety Customer quality expectations at 0 PPM and a 2.0+ Cpk level Maximum manufacturing cost & investment effectiveness Consistency with BW Manufacturing & Product strategies Assure environmental & ergonomic issues are in complianceKEY ACCOUNTABILITIESCoordinates the manufacturing engineering resources to support both the BW-TS & BW JV Transmission Manufacturing & Assembly operations.  Provides technical expertise, leadership and direction to the manufacturing engineering, product engineering and production operations.  Works within the customer launch team environment as well as operations for new product launches and existing product line startup in China.  Assures BW-TS & BW JV’s are at the forefront of state-of-the-art world class manufacturing technology leading to world class manufacturing operations. Insures implementation of the BorgWarner Production System Lean Manufacturing Goals: (1) provide the best quality product, (2) in the shortest time period, (3) with the best total cost.  Coordinates project teams at the BW Tech Centers to incorporate manufacturing input into product designs (DFMA).  Scope includes leading the project team in the implementation of the BorgWarner Production System (BWPS) concepts of error proofing/Poka-Yoke, 5-S/Visual Workplace, Line Balancing/One-Piece Flow, Pull Systems/KanBans Inventory Management, Setup Reduction, Takt time, TPM, Standardized work & Kaizen “lean” manufacturing concepts into production lines.   The overall goal is to eliminate waste in the system through the use of the BWPS AND 6 Sigma tools.  EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Minimum 10 - 15 years related experience in manufacturing engineering and production operations. Actual experience in an A/T manufacturing & assembly required Masters Degree in Business or Mfg/Industrial/Operations Engineering desirable Proven record of competence in an engineering discipline English Language Skills required.  Ability in other TS languages (Chinese, Japanese, German, Spanish, French or Korean) a plus Open to/understanding of others cultures Lean Manufacturing and/or 6 Sigma training & experience.  Management presentation skills and experience Project leadership & program management experience Work skills Working knowledge and experience in implementation of operational concepts and tools (Kaizen, SMED, OEE, PFMEA, etc.) Experience with general office computer tools (word processing, spreadsheets, and office communications) Experience with specific manufacturing software tools (MS Project, VSM, QFD, DFM/DFA, CAD/CAM, etc.)KEY COMPETENCIES Customer Focus Priority Setting Informing Building Effective Teams Interpersonal Savvy Problem Solving Learning on the Fly Creativity Organizational Agility Drive for Results Interpersonal Savvy Functional Technical Skills
