Metallurgical TechnicianUnder moderate supervision, and from established procedures, performs a variety of metallurgical tests and data analysis. Prepares routine and non-routine metallurgical samples, including grinding, cutting, mounting, and polishing Evaluates and documents materials microstructure by using microscopic techniques Performs weld analysis, including visual examination, hardness analysis, microstructure analysis, and weld related measurements Performs failure analysis, such as nondestructive testing, mechanical testing, and microscopic examination or fracture surface and failure mode determination Perform x-ray, SEM and EDS analysis of parts Abilities:Able to perform weld analysis as outlined above. Understanding of etching techniques. Excellent communication skills; both oral and written. Able to operate PC based software programs and automated business systems, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Education/Experience:High School Diploma required. AAS preferred. Metallurgical or welding related certification preferred or a minimum of 60 credit hours towards a technical degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of 5 years related experience or combination of formal education and experience with at least 3 years of hands-on experience with demonstrated proficiency. Physical Requirements:Must be able to repeatedly lift 40 lbs. From floor to above shoulders. Must be able to pass Hazardous Materials Training class.
