Production Engineering

Position Summary:

Under general direction, responsible for managing the development and documentation of designs intended modify and improve existing manufactured products.  Responsible for the validation of designs though analysis and testing.  Person in this position makes decisions based on inputs from customers, management and production staff to develop design changes and improvements.  These inputs can also lead to configuration changes to existing products.  Focus is on existing manufactured products, but may be called upon to assist in new product development.

 

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

§  Design, specify and document various hydraulic, mechanical and electro-mechanical components and systems to meet requirements.

§  Assisting in bringing new products from the prototyping stage to the production environment.

§  Structures accurate data for the Engineering Document Control system, including item data entry and BOM construction.

§  Determine and specify various materials including steels, alloys and plastics to meet requirements.

§  Interface with sales, product support, customers and production personnel to make product improvements

§  Assist manufacturing to resolve engineering / design issues.



 

Requirements:

Candidate should start with a strong background in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of sheet metal, machining, welding and assembly processes. Must be able to practice methodical troubleshooting. Thorough knowledge of the capabilities of engineering design software.  Knowledge of Solidworks, AutoCAD and Cosmosworks would be very helpful. Must be able to select electromechanical driving devices such as DC brush motors and solenoids based on requirements. Must have a basic knowledge of electrical systems.

Communication with interdepartmental as well as production staff is a must. Ability to interpret internal design specification and federal and state specifications into design requirements. BSME/BSCE and 5+ years experience in the design of mechanical systems including hydraulics, gear design and link systems. 3 + years in a project lead role. Strong knowledge of sheet metal, machining and welding processes would be helpful.
