Project Engineer/Cab Stucture/Heavy Truck

A local Lansing, Michigan area company who are the leaders in developing and manufacturing of custom chassis for Calss A recreational vehicles, fire trucks and specialty vehicles are seeking a full time Project Engineer.

 

The person we are seeking must have the following skills:

 

Education, Skills, and Experience:

Candidates MUST meet the following five criteria to be considered:BS Engineering (4 year, accredited) with 4 years experience as an engineer in the emergency, on-highway truck, off-highway truck, automotive, or agriculture industries.One year of proven experience leading the development of cab systems or components from project initiation to product launch.Exposure to 3D solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred, Pro/E, UG, CATIA, and IDEAS are also acceptable).  Desire to use SolidWorks to create layouts, part designs, and drawings.Candidates must have led teams that successfully resolved complex problems using tools such as the 8D process.Proficient in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Spartan Chassis WANTS candidates with some or all of the following skills:At least 4000 total hours using 3D solid modeling in the last eight years.Specific experience developing cab structure, seats, and/ or exterior trim.Experience developing truck chassis systems.

 

Key Job Elements:

The following are the main duties and responsibilities that apply to this position.  In addition, general job expectations are described in the our company Associates Handbook.  Other duties will be assigned at the discretion of the department manager.Function as the Lead Engineer for identified cab systems.Establish and lead cross-functional project teams focused on developing and launching major projects, including new concepts, new customer applications, and new technologies. The teams will include representatives from affected functions including Application Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, Manufacturing, Customer Service, Sales, and suppliers.Establish and maintain overall project schedules, and work proactively to identify and resolve timing concerns in order to complete projects on time and achieve the stated objectives.  Utilize the the company Product Development Process.Demonstrate outstanding problem solving and troubleshooting skills.  Lead teams that quickly resolve issues.Develop test methods and requirements, as well as coordinate component and system testing, including analysis of results and participation in the testing as required.Initiate and coordinate design, application, and installation reviews.Be proficient in the operation of current Spartan Engineering design software, with solid modeling and large assembly capability.Produce product assembly drawings/ installation diagrams, assembly drawings, and component detail drawings consistent with our drawing standards.Develop an engineering bill-of-material that is complete, accurate, and on-time.Travel to suppliers and customers as required.

 The person we are seeking must be able to travel and when they are not traveling willing to spend 50% of their time sitting in front of the tube doing drawings, mark ups etc.... We are seeking an indiviual who understands that they will be leading projects and when not doing so will be doing solidmodeling!!! This position is full time, direct hire with a starting salary of $60K-$68K with a quarterly bonus of $4500-$6500, great benefits and relocation package if need be.
