Project Engineer – Kaizen/Lean Manufacturing Leader

 

American Showa, Inc., a Tier 1 supplier to the auto industry has an immediate opening for a Project Engineer – Kaizen/Lean Manufacturing with our Production Engineering team in our Sunbury, OH manufacturing facility.

 

We are looking for an individual who has an excellent communication skill with comprehensive knowledge in mass production processes for automotive to lead our Kaizen activities. The primary job description of this position is shown below.

 

-  Attend daily production meetings to identify Kaizen opportunities.

-  Formulate manufacturing engineering projects on the opportunities to improve our manufacturing processes.

-  Develop key metrics to measure the manufacturing conditions and design a system to quantitatively assess manufacturing. Develop a vehicle to communicate the key metrics to both direct and in-direct associates.

-  Identify ways to increase the capacity of manufacturing lines without a significant amount of capital investment. Analyze down time to identify opportunities. Conduct a task analysis to increase the productivity in the manual operations. Formulate projects to convert the opportunities to tangible value for the plant.

-  Analyze the change over process, and develop ways to shorten the change over durations.

-  Provide an accurate report and clear presentation to the senior management to inform the current manufacturing conditions and plans to improve them.

-  Participate to the business planning process to guide the senior management to form an accurate business plan.

 

This is a highly visible position w/a lot of interaction throughout the entire organization. To be selected for an interview, a proven track record of successful plant improvement activities is required. Exp in analyzing down time, productivity, and piece flow for mass production environment is highly critical. An ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least 7 years of industrial exp in automotive mass production companies as Kaizen program leader. To be effective immediately, comprehensive process knowledge in assembly, metal forming, machining, powder metal sintering, and welding is required. Mechanical aptitude is also required to understand the interactions between tool/die/fixture and in-process materials. Basic understanding of PLC and robot programming will be very helpful. To analyze high volume of data obtained from manufacturing accurately, hand-on experience on various statistical processes is required. Computer skill on MS Office package is essential, and some exp in both 2D and 3D CAD is preferred. Highly dynamic environment will require this person to execute multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively under changing priorities. The communication skill is extremely important and evaluated thoroughly during the interview process. Some experience with Japanese transplants is a plus.
