Purchasing Manager

 

Our client is a profitable, growing, highly automated, industry-leading manufacturer in the automobile industry that is well known and well respected for their quality.  This position is in their corporate headquarters in the Charlotte, NC area.

 

Due to their continued growth they need to add a Purchasing Manager to the team. This position will report directly to the Plant Manager, manage a staff of 3, and will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the activities of buyers and related personnel involved in purchasing materials, products and services. This position requires a thorough knowledge of supply chain management organizational procedures and the ability to work independently or as a team, exercising initiative and judgment.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

·  Locate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales

·  Evaluate suppliers based on cost, quality, service, availability and reliability

·  Analyzes changes or new issues in materials and supply to reduce costs and improve quality

·  Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.

·  Control purchasing department budgets

·  Interview and hire staff, and oversee staff training

·  Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy

·  Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability

·  Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials

 

REQUIREMENTS

·  6 + years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment

·  2 + years of purchasing staff management

·  Substantial supplier development and contract review experience

·  Excellent written and oral communication skills

·  Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

·  Strong leadership skills

 

PREFERENCES

·  Automotive industry experience

·  Purchasing professional certifications (APP, CPM, etc.)

·  Local candidate (Charlotte metro area)
