PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for ensuring material is procured in the right quantity, quality, price, and time, consistent with the goals of Corporation.

To help staff a department to support the fast growing pace of the company.

To develop suppliers and coordinate the purchase of product requirements for automotive electronics.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Empower the purchasing team to develop skills that will help Corporation grow.

Management by objectives, setting goals for the department for inventory turns, pricing, values analysis/engineering, and total cost of ownership.

Develop trends for pricing, currency values and capacity planning for negotiating with suppliers.

Manage a world-wide supply base and conduct audits at supplier sites.

Negotiate from a macro/micro level with all suppliers across cultures.

Utilize product life cycles of key components to ensure that company has the latest components available at the lowest possible total cost.

Supervise staff including hiring, evaluating performance, and exercising discipline as outlined by company policy.

Execute the development of suppliers for electronic product requirements through supplier quality approval and product approval to engineering release for production.

Support Material Planning requirements in the supply of the electronic products purchased to meet Electronic Assembly demand.

Coordinate the corporate Value Analysis/Value Engineering effort to improve quality and reduce cost with Electrical Engineering and Electronic Assembly for electronic products purchased.

Coordinate the business relationship with the suppliers of the electronic products purchased through compliance with quality, confidentiality, and business conduct and ethics requirements.

Coordinate with the Strategic Buyer – Electronics in the technology direction for all supplier selection and development.

Maintain knowledge of company electrical, mechanical, test, and manufacturing practices and execute consistent with them.Develop electronic commerce with key suppliers compressing the purchasing cycle time with suppliers.

Implement “Cradle to Grave” philosophy that the Purchasing Department provides in regards to buying and disposing purchased components.

Complete confidentiality agreements with key suppliers.

Lead value analysis/engineering projects to provide a better product at a lower total cost.

Utilize new computer software to ensure the department has the latest programs available.

Prefer 5 years experience in the Materials Management field.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for presentations with management internally and externally.

Certification through a professional organization is preferred (CPM and/or CPIM).

Must have the ability to travel to a world-wide supply base.

Strong ability to negotiate with internal and external customers.

Purchased cost contribution.

Supplier quality and delivery.

Part shortages and supply flow.

Contribution to continuous improvement efforts within the department.

Component inventory levels versus targets (inventory turns).

Component inventory obsolescence.

5 years supplier development experience in an international environment a plus.

4-year College degree (or equivalent work experience) in Business or related technical degree.

Bachelor’s degree in an Electrical Engineering discipline ideal.

Education with a materials and logistics management emphasis preferred; MBA helpful.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports directly to the Vice President, Purchasing and Logistics.

Supervises the work of Buyers, Planners, and Purchasing Assistants.

Internal contact includes Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Manufacturing, Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, Management, and Quality.

Externally the manager will have contact with the entire supply base.
