Quality Engineer in Vacuum Heat Treat Plant

Summary: Under limited supervision, the Quality Engineer (QE) works with Control Plans, FMEAs, Quality Alerts, Corrective Actions and Problem Solving. The position assist with implementation of continuous improvement. The Quality Engineer may be called on to support various day to day plant functions including metallurgical laboratory inspections.
Requirements (Qualifications & Skills):
¨ Education: Minimum Requirements: AS Degree in Quality Systems, Material Science, or Metallurgical Engineering. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
¨ Experience: Requires experience and practical knowledge of commercial or captive heat treatment. Automotive background preferred. Experience with vacuum heat treating preferred.
¨ Minimum of 5 years experience in automotive quality systems.
¨ Language Skills: Requires effective verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with management and all levels, both in-house, and at customer’s place of business.
¨ Physical Demands: Some travel maybe required. Must be able to work for extended periods of time in non-air conditioned plant environment.
¨ Environment: Clean vacuum heat-treat facility.
¨ Must be capable of making written recommendations for improving Quality Assurance Systems and Procedures.
¨ Must be thoroughly familiar with commercial specifications, ISO, QS, and TS quality systems.
¨ Working knowledge of CQI-9
¨ Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and purchase orders.
¨ Must be detail oriented and be able to establish and meet deadlines. Must be able to multi-task. Must be capable of self-direction.
¨ Knowledge of in-house and pc-based computer operations is required.
¨ Must be able to develop power point presentations, metallurgical reports, and effectively train co-workers in quality systems and customer-required inspection techniques.
¨ Must have the ability to report to work on-time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
¨ Must be professional at all times.
Essential Job Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):
¨ Implement, maintain, and train others in a documented quality program that meets customer requirements and corporate standards.
¨ Must be able to work effectively with employees, customers, and suppliers.
¨ Develop written work instructions as required, to support quality department objectives.
¨ Must be able to work with Microsoft excel, Word and perform data entry.
¨ The QE works with all departments to identify, contain, and resolve problems with customer parts.
¨ The position uses tools like the 5-Why’s, Is-Is Not, Corrective Actions, and 8-Ds.
¨ The QE may also perform layered audits, develop and maintain control plans, and update FMEAs (Failure Mode Effects Analyses),
¨ The QE creates standard work instructions, visual aids, and perform employee training.
¨ Develop heat treat processes and oversee the evaluation of process results.
