PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE:

 

Responsible for preparing samples for test method development, configuring and operating materials lab equipment, obtaining data from equipment, analyzing data and reporting data.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.  Set-up and use laboratory equipment such as Instron materials tester, Mattson FTIR, Perkin-Elmer DSC, balances, and viscometers.

2.  Record, calculate, and report test results. Issue reports in Excel and Word.

3.  Prepare samples for testing by instruments. 

4.  Build speakers and sub-assemblies for mechanical or environmental tests.

5.  Analyze test data and make conclusions and recommendations from the test data.

6.  Develop test methods and concepts for test fixtures.

7.  Assist with adhesive processes on new line start-up and troubleshoot current adhesive processes.

8.  May direct the work of lower level technicians.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education: High School minimum.  Associates degree is desired, but not required if completed training courses in viscosity measurement, infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and operation of tensile testing equipment. 

 

Experience: 5 years of related experience in building speakers and operating lab equipment.

 

Working Knowledge Required:

 

· Knowledge of Personal Computers, Networks, and Windows operating system

· Competent in Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and customer web-based material certification software

 

 

Work performed under normal plant, field, shop or office conditions, involving slightly disagreeable working conditions, but not to a disturbing degree.  Stressful situations encountered related to timeliness and quality of services performed.
