Sr. Engineer / Engineering Dept. Mgr.

Our Non-union facility located in North Manchester, Indiana is actively seeking an experienced, hands-on, Senior Engineer / Engineering Department Manager.  Our plant employs approximately 90 employees working a 3 shift manufacturing operation and has annual sales of approximately 17M.  Our goal is to provide the employee with a safe, clean, work environment as well as a challenging, flexible and interesting place to work. The work will be performed in a lean manufacturing environment.

 

SUMMARY

Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes in engineering department by performing and/or supervising the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.

 Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

 Participates in the APQP process with program management and production staff concerning process design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.

 Confers with vendors to determine material specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.

 Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

 Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

 Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.

 Supervise and/or provide, prepare/maintain detailed plant layouts Create/Update the following information on an as needed basis Standardized work instructions Tool change instructions Setup instructions Packaging instructions Process parameter control sheets Startup / shutdown instructions Prepare process flow diagrams Participate in initial FMEA preparation spearheaded by the industrial pilots and update existing ones as needed Train supervisors and team leaders in the procedures and instructions on the production lines to ensure a production that is efficient, disciplined, and consistently meets quality requirements Continuously improve production lines by Simplifying processes Implementing poke yoke on processes Increasing human efficiency Improving ergonomics Enhancing process efficiency to improve yield and reduce scrap and reworkChampion process improvements utilizing a team approach involving quality maintenance manufacturing and engineeringProvide accurate forecast on cycle times for new products Maintain target cycle times Propose and implement productivity and cost reduction ideas Participate in process development and ensure a smooth transaction to the production facility Design assembly fixtures and other small production toolsProvide and maintain a stable/capable process to manufacturing.Implement quick change over, Lean Manufacturing method.Trouble shooting & work with manufacturing and eliminate issues/concerns.Lead new project and meet or exceeding cost/budget and timing.Root cause analysis for scrap and implementation of corrective actions.Aid product engineering in timely in implementation of engineering changes and lead any process changes needed for a smooth start-up Work with quality in problem solving teams Perform feasibility studies on process changes related to changed or new processes

 

Requirements:

 B.S. in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering5 years experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.  Proficient/trained in ISO/TS16949 or QS9000 and APQP, PFMEA, PPAP, SPC, GD&TComputer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Excellent oral and written communications skills.Strong ability to interface with all levels of staff to achieve organizational goals.Must be highly organized and a self starter.Six Sigma Black Belt and Lean Manufacturing Background Highly Preferred
