Sr. Motor Controls Engineer
Senior Motor Controls Engineer, Electric Propulsion Systems
BluWāv Systems, a technology company specializing in the commercialization of electric and hybrid-electric propulsion and energy storage systems for the automotive and commercial vehicle markets, is seeking a Senior Motor Controls Engineer in its Rochester Hills, MI facility to develop and validate motor control algorithms in a real-time embedded environment.
Responsibilities:Develop and validate four-quadrant vector control-based motor control algorithms for 5-200 kW brushless DC (surface mount and interior mounted permanent magnet), SR, AC induction or similar electric machines.Utilize established motor dynamometers, hardware-in-the-loop, and vehicle testing to validate motor controls and motor control interfaces to vehicle controls.Implement control strategies using development tools and real-time controls in a rapid prototyping/commercialization environment.Develop algorithms to reduce vehicle-level noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).Develop repeatable methods for and provide motor characteristic data such as efficiency maps, torque production, thermal predictions, etc.Develop and implement rigid motor optimization techniques, tools, and test and/or development procedures.Develop and validate sensorless position sensing algorithms.Develop and validate various resolver, encoder and hall-effect position sensing strategies.Recommend and implement code optimization techniques.Validate thermal and efficiency models with Motor Design engineerWork with Motor Design engineer and Power Electronics Engineer, Systems Engineer and Manufacturing staff to review new designs and provide succinct input for machine design improvements.
QualificationsMaster’s of Electrical Engineering, Control Systems or similar academic background, Ph. D. and/or practical experience preferredStrong, demonstrable experience with:Id x Iq-based vector control systems developmentMatlab/Simulink environment, real-time motor control systemsC language programming with familiarization of assembly codeTI TMS320 24xx and 28xx DSP and/or Power PC family of processors 3 – 5 years of automotive or related engineering, hybrid or electric drive experience, or university experience with FutureTruck, or Challenge X.3 – 5 years of 5-200kW Motor Control experience.3 – 5 years of Power Electronic Experience desired.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical skills along with the drive to function in a small, focused team environment.
