POSITION TITLE:

Test Engineer

 

 

DEPARTMENT:

Chassis Engineering Test Lab

 

 

REPORTS TO:

Test Manager

 

 

GENERAL PURPOSE:  Defines, documents, analyzes, performs and interprets tests for new and/or current products and/or components.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Designs, analyzes and interprets product and component tests.

· Directs and coordinates outside test requirements that exceed current in-house capabilities

· Investigates and resolves operational problems in conjunction with other engineering and technical staff.

· Provides advice and technical support to engineering groups.

· Provides engineering support for the re-working, repairs and improvement of existing test equipment

· Assists technicians in the set-up and performance of tests.

· Assists in establishing and updating of test laboratory policies and procedures.

· Surveys commercially available test equipment and instrumentation and makes recommendations for procurement and utilization. Develops new test equipment as needed when not available commercially.

· Assists in development of internal quality control and reliability programs.

· Maintains technical skills.

· Completes special assignments.

 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Qualification Requirements:

· Advanced reading, mathematical, written and verbal communication skills, mechanical, engineering and technical skills typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree program in an engineering discipline, or applicable experience.

· Computer literacy in basic PC based office software and PC based data acquisition software. Physical and mental ability to use office equipment.

· Strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to design creative and practical tests and procedures typically associated with 2-5 years experience as a test engineer. Test laboratory experience will include servo-hydraulics, instrumentation, and mechanical drawing skills.
