Position Summary

The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for providing direction in sourcing decisions for tools and check fixtures, ensuring dies are built to die standards and per agreed upon timing to meet program milestones, and acting as the primary point of contact with tool shops to give direction on tool builds as it relates to craftsmanship, part quality, cost and delivery.

 

Qualifications and other RequirementsMust have a strong tooling background, preferably in heavy metal stampings Must possess good program management skills to ensure customer and program milestones are met Must have good organizational skills to coordinate all phases of tool build Ability to work in a team environment Must be willing to travel Must be willing to work extended or flexible hours as needed to meet customer requirements 5-10 years tool building and/or die engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

 

Tooling Engineer Roles and ResponsibilitiesQuote component parts and tooling for new business quotes Maximize material utilization during quoting and then die design stages Provide product direction as needed to ensure parts can meet manufacturing requirements and GD&T expectations Prepare RFQ packages for competitive quoting and then provide direction in the sourcing decisions Facilitate and direct die design reviews involving pressroom, quality and engineering team members Follow die builds through all stages of build to ensure dies are constructed to the approved designs and catch any concerns which may have been overlooked during design review Achieve full buy-off of completed tools from press department or tier 2 suppliers Quote and manage implementation of all ECN activities on existing tools.
