Accountant (Payroll)

This is a position that performs moderately complex activities specializing in Payroll under minimal supervision.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Conducts complicated financial analysis pertaining to financial and expense performance, rates of return, depreciation, and gains and losses at the company and departmental levels. Reconciles and balances accounts related to the specific financial area to maintain control and accuracy by identifying discrepancies and their cause; develops and assists in the implementation of processes that contribute to preventative controls and procedures. Provides maintenance of various systems to include the general ledger, statutory reporting systems, payroll system, investment accounting systems, cost accounting and budget systems. Performs financial and compliance feasibility analysis of new ideas incorporating accounting, reporting, legal and regulatory considerations. Conducts special financial and business related studies and cooperates with other departments and third parties in the preparation of analyses. Participates in the development of organization business policies, process improvements and new product integration as directed. Utilizes a personal computer to compile and prepare reports, graphs, and charts of data developed. Provides technical expertise and training for specified area’s functions and systems. Acts as a liaison between various internal and external agents to ensure accurate and timely completion of the specified functional area’s work. Prepares monthly and quarterly statements and reports, earned and specialized premium and commission reports, GAAP and statutory financial statutory statements and financial exhibits, settlements with reinsurers, property taxes, investment reports, and premium taxes. Researches and responds to various external inquiries regarding specified area’s information. Completes required state and municipal filings. May perform other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Quantitative Analysis Five to seven (1-4) years of related experience CMA, CPA preferred Knowledge of GAAP and statutory life insurance accounting is desirable. Ability to interpret and correlate an extensive variety of financial information. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Strong organizational skills and ability to work under time pressures. Strong communication skills for working with various corporate levels and across functional teams.
