The Analyst II-Credit Portfolio Strategy (019177) position is responsible for the job functions performed at the I level as well as the following: directing the daily activities of a moderately sized workgroup or department; making recommendations to senior managers on the need to develop, adapt, modify or streamline policies, procedures and systems; contributing to the development of strategic plans at the department level; monitoring and evaluating departmental effectiveness as well as work-products, deliverables, and outcome quality. In addition to requirements defined for the I level, the position includes the following extensive, specialized knowledge of: analytical methodologies; risk management principles and practices; credit principles and practices; regulatory requirements; banking and financial services, products, and processes; project management methodologies; technical systems and applications knowledge where applicable to area of assignment; is a key resource for the development and implementation of programs, processes, and tools; conduct highly complex analyses and assessments; develop recommendations for senior leaders; make sound decisions that will affect a large workgroup or department; manage multiple and/or large complex projects; and prepare and present complex technical information for a variety of audiences including senior leaders. Key responsibilities for this position are the development of analytical tools and a conceptual framework that results in WaMu deriving the highest possible return for an identified, acceptable level of risk. Ensures that tools accurately assess risk associated with WaMu’s lending products and that framework includes assessment of detailed credit and real estate market risks and are consistently applied to WaMu’s products. (Key market risks are national & geographic economic health, property type fundamentals, interest rate outlook, and borrower financial capabilities). Performs comparative and risk-related portfolio analytics versus peer, trends, risk drivers, etc. Heavy emphasis on evaluation of credit risk drivers, risk ratings, and preparation of "deep dive" reports into substantive risk issues.. General research & problem solving is required to complete ad hoc analysis and think “outside-the-box” for possible answers. Supports an integrated view of risk that leads to strategic recommendations relative to products and the portfolio by isolating drivers of performance, influencing critical lending parameters and policies, and providing guidance to market. Ensures that key analytic/statistical tools include development/maintenance of an expected loss modeling framework and a real estate market ranking system. Bachelor’s Degree required Masters degree preferred 10 years of analytical/risk (credit) related experience that includes 3-5 years of management experience, and advanced statistical and financial modeling capabilities.
