Job Summary

Responsible for a variety of work on contract and purchasing transactions within Procurement. Provide negotiating expertise, and support for all business units by creating and implementing best practice purchasing, strategic sourcing, and supplier relations strategies. The Senior Buyer is also responsible for purchasing product inventory for various Regulus Applications nationally. Investigate all resources relative to materials and supplies, and make cost effective purchases.

 

Essential Job Duties of the Position 

·  Purchase product in accordance with approved specifications, and obtain proposals and quotes for product on commodities assigned in compliance with regulations and laws relative to the purchasing operation.

·  Closely monitor trends, availability, pricing, and developments in assigned commodities and assess the impact of such activity as it presents risks and opportunities to Regulus. Develop appropriate action plans to respond to changes.

·  Obtain competitive bids, negotiate, and implement supply agreements on the basis of greatest profitability to the company, commensurate with quality standards and delivery capabilities.

·  Assure that the supplier base within assigned commodities maximizes the opportunities for suppliers that are minority-owned, women-owned, and other specially identified groups in accordance with the company’s supplier diversity policy.

·  Work with all levels of the organization to identify and acquire/develop competencies, resources and synergies to ensure that the supply chain organization can meet the challenges of a growing and changing company.

·  Enforce company procedures and standards with regards to packaging, case counts, delivery procedures and hours. Select appropriate freight carrier bases on cost and required arrival dates.

·  Monitor and evaluate vendor’s performance utilizing historical records, competitive research, quality review and testing, and formal vendor evaluations.

·  Serve as liaison with accounting group to review and resolve discrepancies with Invoices and support documentation.

·  Support and maintain National Account Programs

·  Serves as backup and support to the Supply Chain Manager. Including adhoc projects as determined by Supply Chain Manager.

 

Knowledge, skills and work experience needed to successful complete the essential job duties.

1  5-8 years experience in graphics/paper industry, preferably as print buyer, or working for printing company.

2  Knowledge of purchasing methods and procedures; techniques of specification; purchasing law and rules.

3  Prefer background/experience in printing, graphics or paper procurement.

4  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and internal departments; prepare and interpret specifications; analyze bids; prepare and maintain procurement records and reports; instruct technical and clerical support positions.

5  Prefer experience with purchasing and inventory modules of MAS 200 or other ERP system.

6  Effective negotiation skills.

7  Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

8  Strong analytical, personal computer, and project management.

9  Strong understanding and adherence to business ethics as articulated in Regulus Policy and the Institute for Supply Management standards of business conduct.

10 Desired - A Bachelors degree with emphasis in business, graphics, or material management.

11 Desired - Current participation or completion of ISM’s C.P.M. certification program.
