Central Plant Technician
Job Description: Duties and Responsibilities:
- Start, operate and stop chillers, boilers, generators, switchgear, motors, pumps, and other central plant equipment.
- Respond to alarm conditions.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform maintenance or repairs on central plant equipment and systems.
- Coordinate and/or participate in large projects or major system repairs.
- Operate Metasys (Building Automation System) software.
- Collect and evaluate data to devise or modify procedures to resolve operational difficulties.
- Provide input into the development and maintenance of procedures, specifications, platforms and standards
- Provide timely response to customer requests for services.
- Perform chemical analysis on chilled, boiler and condenser water to ensure proper chemical quantities.
- Ensures facility complies with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (EPA, OSHA, etc).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in practicing safety requirements and standards when working with hazardous chemicals, equipment, and/or electrical systems.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in electrical, mechanical and basic refrigeration used in operation, maintenance and repair of Bank equipment and systems.
- Skill in operating and manipulating machinery and various hand and power tools requiring manual dexterity.
- Skill in reading and understanding blueprints, technical manuals, and precision measuring systems and instruments.
- Skill in maintaining a safe work environment.
- Skill in mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to determine voltage and convert numbers to metric units.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as required for customer interaction, team environment, and documentation.
- Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand, lifting 50 lbs., and work on ladders/lifts up to 45 ft.
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and emergency situations.
- Ability to work in areas subjected to noise, heat, dust, or cold.
- Ability to work rotating shifts.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in equipment and system operations sufficient to lead others in providing required service and maintenance.
- Skill in using a personal computer and keyboard and applicable current automated systems hardware and software.
- Ability to coordinate and lead a crew by setting task priorities, scheduling, and maintaining labor/materials requirements.
- Ability to work under general supervision and with minimal instruction. Ability to initiate action when problems call for resolution.
- Ability to resolve problems calling for technical analysis and creativity.
- Above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be demonstrated by a Associates Degree in applied sciences or related area and three years progressive work experience in a related area. Equivalent education and/or experience may be substituted for any of the above.
