Controller Mortgage Banking

Our client, one of the nation’s premier super regional bank-owned mortgage companies, is seeking a Controller for its southeastern United States headquarters.  Unlike many companies today, this organization is stable, well run and is moving forward.  They are a retail A paper residential platform with traditional loan officers and a sound business plan.  They have a substantial servicing portfolio, and they have not experienced the degree of downturn associated with most lenders because of the subprime market turmoil.  For sure, their volume is not what it was a few years ago; but they have managed their business well enough to stay profitable and maintain their core business strategy.  In fact, they have capitalized on the current market conditions by expanding their network with key industry hires.  They are truly one of the few remaining big company platforms that can boast of their current position with pride and optimism. Responsibilities of the position: · Manage the monthly reporting of all mortgage related financial activities, and report results to the appropriate departments and senior management team;· Coordinate month and year end closings in accordance with best practice accounting methods;· Ensure complete adherence to GAAP.  Make certain that all new pronouncements are communicated effectively across the organization;· Monitor the monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts; clear outstanding items.· Manage SOX review and certification process;· Work with appropriate managers on all audit requests;· Manage a payroll incentive system for a large number of loan officers;· Measure and report productivity numbers for various departments and activities;· Review and get approval on large expenditures;· Serve as a project leader for key initiatives assigned by the President or CFO;· Keep abreast of all changes related to mortgage banking accounting rules, policies and regulations; pay particular attention to corporate, SEC, State and Federal regulatory policies;· Generally, make sure all accounting functions run smooth and efficiently all of the time. Requirements of the candidate: · Minimum bachelors degree in accounting;· CPA highly preferred;· High level of proficiency with technology; (Excel, Crystal, Fidelity, Essbase, Power Point)· 8 – 10 years of solid accounting experience within a regulated mortgage banking environment;· Strong leadership skills and work ethic;· Very strong knowledge of GAAP accounting;· Excellent presentation skills;· Hands on management style;· Very organized and able to prioritize tasks;· Independent thinker. Our client offers a competitive base salary and bonus plan, and offers excellent benefits for the individual and family.  Relocation assistance will be provided.  If you qualify and are interested, please send resume via e-mail only to randy@straussgroup.com .  All qualified candidates will be responded to in the strictest of confidence.  MRINetwork is the largest and most successful search organization in the world.
