FHA DE Sr. Underwriter

Summary Underwrite to FHA guidelines for all loans originated through the Direct-to-Consumer and Wholesale channels of Irwin Home Equity, an operating company of Irwin Financial Corporation. Provide compliance review and pricing validation as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Understand and apply FHA and IHE credit guidelines, along with any AU findings that may be applicable Serve as FHA subject matter expert for Underwriting department Set conditions required to complete the underwriting function Review and accept the conditions as they are delivered Provide support to the Account Executives regarding underwriting guidelines and policies Provide support for testing system or process changes as they pertain to the underwriting functions Respond to audit findings as required Examine overall loan documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance to internal and external standards Review loan applications to recommend loan decisions according to FHA and IHE guidelines Analyze credit characteristics to ensure each loan meets company standards for sale into secondary market Analyzes complex transactions Performs reworks and reconsiderations as necessary Escalate all issues and concerns to management as necessaryRequired Qualifications Minimum 5-7 years of recent experience underwriting FHA loans in the mortgage and/or real estate lending industry with previous credit granting authority Must have active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) Certification Fully proficient in all areas of loan processing, credit principles, accounting and income analysis Enjoys collaborating with others in a subject matter expert role Ability to make sound credit decisions independently and work with minimal supervision Analytical skills in determining income calculations Able to read and analyze tax returns Detail oriented Good written and verbal communication skillsPreferred Qualifications A.A./A.S DegreeEducation and/or Experience High School/GED 5-7+ years related experienceRequired Personal Values Possess the ability and intent to align all business decisions with the company's Guiding Philosophy and Core Values and Beliefs.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for all employees: Agility: Shifts rapidly to new problems, tasks and assignments, adapts quickly to new responsibilities, open to new ideas and approaches and adjusts plans to meet changing needs, embraces change.
