Florida Credit Union League President / CEO
The Florida Credit Union League (FCUL), located in Tallahassee, is seeking a successor for the retiring Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This statewide trade association offers a variety of products and services focused on meeting the needs of Florida credit union. The Board of Directors is looking for an accomplished, dynamic professional to execute FCUL’s strategic goals while staying true to the organization’s mission.
BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for managing the Florida Credit Union League and Florida Credit Union League Service Group and other subsidiaries, {hereinafter referred to as “FCUL”} in order to provide credit unions with the tools and operating environment they need to meet their members needs, while providing an adequate return on member investments (where applicable).
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: A college degree in political science, business, finance or related field plus a minimum of ten (10) years of senior level experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions in large organizations. Effective leadership and administrative abilities, attention to detail, and ability to make informed and sound financial and managerial decisions are essential. Must be knowledgeable of the economic and competitive environment, and all state and federal credit union regulations. Good interpersonal, communication, and customer relations skills are essential. Mental concentration is necessary for tolerating frequent interruptions and for remaining focused on various projects and issues. Must be able to plan and respond to changing economic, political and business circumstances and make sound financial and managerial decisions in the best interests of FCUL and its members. Position requires ability to work extended hours, travel extensively and handle job-related stress.

SUPERVISORY DIMENSIONS: Accountable for the overall management of FCUL and Subsidiaries; ensures implementation and adherence to established policies and procedures; hires, leads, guides, develops, coaches, inspires, evaluates, counsels, disciplines and terminates direct reports when necessary; ensures that effective employment decisions and performance evaluations are conducted by supervisors and managers.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Frequent contact with state and United States politicians, regulators, press, associations, credit unions and the public; some contact with civic leaders regarding community issues.
INTERNAL CONTACTS: Regular contact with direct reports, staff and Board of Directors; participates on various committees and meetings held throughout FCUL.
DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership and guidance to direct reports; plans and develops business strategies; develops and administers budgets; approves unbudgeted expenses up to $10,000 per item; pursues and negotiates legislative initiatives; negotiates contracts; implements BOD directives; manages rate of membership growth for the FCUL; oversees personnel issues; establishes working environment that produces a professional and motivated staff; assumes responsibility for all decisions and actions of employees of FCUL under the direct control of the CEO.
CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION: The CEO has access to strategic financial information pertaining to FCUL information relating to financial performance; personnel information; and, other confidential information. The CEO is expected to exercise due diligence, care and loyalty in handling this and other sensitive information.
CONSEQUENCES OF ERRORS: The CEO is expected to exercise sound judgment. Poor, inadequate or erroneous management decisions may result in organization inefficiencies, member dissatisfaction, member loss, employee morale problems, loss of dues and damage to organization’s reputation.
KEY ACTIVITIESRepresents FCUL and provides leadership and direction, consistent with the policies and mission, in its relationships with member and non-member credit unions, state and national governmental bodies, Credit Union National Association, media, professional societies, and the general public. Monitors operating results of FCUL and initiates actions designed to meet established strategic plans and operational goals and objectives. Working with managers, oversees legislative processes relating to member credit unions; provides leadership and direction needed to maintain a positive, proactive relationship with legislators; provides leadership and direction needed to establish legislative strategy and monitors progress. Prescribes the specific limitations of the authority of staff regarding policies, contractual commitments, expenditures, and personnel actions. Insures that policies are uniformly understood and properly interpreted and administered by managers. Reviews and approves the appointment, employment, transfer or termination of all key employees. Manages organization's compensation programs and systems. Evaluates performance of direct reports. Resolves any conflicts arising between operating groups, staff units and other elements under immediate supervision. Insures that strategic operation plans relating to programs, products and services offered by FCUL are prepared, and participates in their preparation; prepares proposed operating and capital expenditure budgets; presents plans and plan modifications for general review and approval by the Board of Directors. Oversees and directs activities needed to maintain the mission, policies, and objectives of FCUL to insure the long-term viability of the organizations, and member credit unions; submits recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval. Encourage staff to accept leadership positions or appointments that is beneficial to FCUL and/or Florida credit unions.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES
A Bachelors degree with a minimum (10) years experience in a league, association or progressive credit union is required. An advanced degree or additional certifications such as Certified Credit Union Executive, Certified Association Executive and CUNA Management School Graduates are preferred.
