Junior Underwriter

Seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as Junior Underwriter.  We have multiple business lines including a Mortgage Bank, Registered Investment Advisory, Investment Banking, and more.  The desired candidate would work well in a team environment and exhibit a strong work ethic and integrity.

Job Description & Responsibilities
This position is responsible for independently conducting full and comprehensive evaluations of a variety of complex, high-risk mortgage loan applications.  Key functions will include interpreting loan and underwriting criteria to determine underwriting decisions and final course of action.  the chosen candidate will identify and recommend alternatives regarding loan structuring and financing solutions, in addition to reviewing and analyzing special conditions, loan deficiencies and exception requests to determine appropriate course of action.  Other duties will include assessing underwriting program effectiveness and making recommendations for improvement, along with coaching field personnel on technical underwriting issues, problems and questions.  Responsibilities include review of mortgage loan submissions and issue loan approvals in compliance with company and investor guidelines.  Verification of all documentation and performing necessary calculations (such as debt-to-income and disposal income).  Identify any risk issues or potential fraud on each loan application.  Responsible for reviewing and clearing approval conditions as required.  Remain current on Investor and Bank requirements and ensure compliance therewith.  Review and underwrite the appraisal.  Perform all date entry functions related to underwriting.  If loan is unacceptable as structured, make alternative structuring recommendations.  Work with other team members to ensure efficient document flow.  Ensure compliance to federal, state, Bank and investor regulations/requirements.  Underwrite to minimum expectations of 5-7 loan files per day.  Assist field personnel with scenario and product questions.  Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
2+ years underwriting experience.
4-year college degree preferred.
In-depth understanding of processing, underwriting and closing procedures, and of underwriting systems and their interdependencies.
Extensive expertise in multiple underwriting specializations,, DE and LAPP preferred.
Understanding of legal, regulatory, economic, competitive and technology environments that may affect real estate lending programs.
Advanced computer skills.
Excellent analytic, interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills.
